I know in FL that I don't have to wear a helmet riding on the street, but I must wear a seat belt when in my car?

In which wreck could I be hurt worse?

In a car w/o a seat belt or on a bike w/o a helmet?

To me, there is no reason to have a seat belt law and not have a helmet law.

Just my opinion...

I wear a helmet, but feel it should be a choice.

As for what has the AMA done. Really.....this again???

What unique topic have you brought up? Many replies you make are, "this again" or some variation thereof.

A better question would "What has the AMA done for the sport?"

Well.... for starters kids wouldn't be riding dirt bikes anymore if the AMA hadn't put a stop to the lead law ban, What the AMA does for the motorcycle community as a whole is tremendous and everyone should support them, While your at it support the NRA

They sent e another renewal notice, if I do not need to renew I will not, they do absolutely nothing for the sport that I enjoy.

So where do you stand?
Are you saying the AMA has done a bad thing
by backing right to choose?

I'm here on a short vacation and don't have the time you obviously do to look through someone's posts. Are you really that much of an ass??? I'm so glad you have the interbews there in your trailer.......asshat.

From this post, I'm sure if I did have time to check out your ramblings, I'm sure I'd find several with the lack of quality and just plain stupidity of this one.

Please let me know what motorcycle organizations you are a member of, what you have done for the sport recently and what you plan on doing for the sport this year.

Oh, and another thing.......get off the AMA's ass. It may not be perfect, but it's the best thing out there and the really do have our interests at heart. Get involved, help change things or keep your mouth shut, understood?

Don't worry, in another week and a day, I'll be gone for another five years. When I come back in 2017, I'll have over 4500 motos under my belt and will have donated another 500+ hours and thousands of dollars to the sport so you can ride.

So let me get this straight.......

Some of you are actually in favor of a helmet law on a state or national level???

That seems pretty out there to me.

Are you also in favor of allowing communities to decide to not allow motorcycles into their communities? How about closing riding areas. Are you in favor of that too?

Damn, sounds like you're ready for another fucking vacation... Sorry you are such a NON-pissy person. ;-)

Where did I say that I am in favor for a helmet law? I think it should be the person's right to have a helmet on or not...as long as they carry a certain amount of medical insurance.

I always thought that the AMA was there to protect our rights as motorcyclist, and to preserve our riding areas.

Seems that you have let your love for the AMA cloud your vision in this thread. We get it....

Thing is, they'll use the insurance rates as a way to enforce it.
Like the old muscle cars, sure, you can get insurance, at a thousand a month or something.
No, it's not right. Backdoor legislation.

Effin insurance companies are gonna own us one day if we let them.

2nd thing, the AMA is involved with all types of motorcycling.
The right to go without a helmet might not mean much to some.
But to a large segment of riders out there, it's a real big deal.

And before anyone says it's too dangerous and we shouldn't have to pay
for the special interest of a few, well, what's insurance supposed to be anyway?

There are many out there that would put us at the very top of the rate schedules if they could,
and get rid of us also. Careful what you wish for.

The statement above looks to me like you were in favor of a helmet law. I stand corrected.

And the AMA does do their best to protect our rights and preserve our riding areas.

I am for helmet laws. The fact that someone would choose to not wear one proves that they are not intellegent enough to make that choice.

I was agreeing with you...about how the AMA does protect our rights as riders...and that it is their responsibility, they even claim that as one of their main goals. Teamgreen was saying that he doesn't feel it's the AMA's responsibility... I was just pointing out that it is their responsibility...and they (AMA) even know it.

Sorry I wasn't clear enough with my post.

I retract my pissy comment, I suppose I was just being..... pissy. Wink

And there's a ton out there that would say jumping a motorcycle
70 feet thru the air at 60 mph is stupid also.

You agree with that way of thinking?

I'm fine with requiring medical insurance to most 'dangerous' activities.

Why should I have to pay part of some guy's $1,700,000 hospital bill because he was too near sighted not to have medical insurance, but still choose to not wear a helmet...

Why should my Aunt June pay for your broken back?
You think the extra premium is gonna cover all the added expenses?
Heck no.
So when that 1 million dollar injury needs money, they go to Aunt June and the likes of her.
Unless you make the premiums for the "dangerous" activities something like 100,000 a year,
which is what the did to big hp cars, which is what could happen here.
Then what do we have?
Only the rich run?

AMA sucks when it comes to motocross/off-road, that's why a lot of big promoters (and I mean some of the biggest) are dropping them... they know as well as anyone how hollow the AMA's value truly is. Also, don't be so quick to credit the AMA for amending the Lead Law... a lot of other people made that happen, and in MHO, if the AMA was doing their job, it would have either never happened, or ended a lot sooner than it did. With that said, please drop this whole AMA thing EastFlorida... we get it that you hate the AMA, but unless you're bringing new insight to the topic, what is the point in beating this dead horse?

I believe it was Malcom Smith Motorsports Mc Grath and others that did a huge event to gain awareness for that LONG before the AMA did anything, so let's not act like they where really on top of things.

There is no reason to have either law. Government should not be in the business of protecting us from ourselves. I say this as someone who chooses to wear a seat belt, and a helmet when I ride.

Just remember people, when it comes to these laws it is a slippery slope. They are currently working on laws against talking on the phone in your car whether you're using a hands fee device or not.

Then should the government be responsible for the medical bills should a person not have a helmet, have a small crash, but be brain damaged?

With that logic, maybe evryone should be put down when they're, what say 60-65, before they start to drain the health budgets. Soylent Green anyone???

Alphado, it's about choice and keeping the government out of our lives as much as possible. I personally would not ride without a helmet, but I do not feel that's anyone's business.
