honestly wouldnt blame jeffrey at all for wanting to stay in holland! i would LOVE to live over there!! so many awesome tracks in such a small area, and they like to party too!! (we went to a festival in reusel in september- it was awesome!)

by far my favourite country, it is amazing!

2strokebloke. Yes, Holland is in my opinion the best country in the World. I know home is where the heart is, but it is just so well organized and cosy. I've lived in America a couple of times in the 80's and am from Australia, but I couldn't really live in either place anymore. The dutch might be a little cocky, but they are really deep believing people and I have a huge respect for how they live.
best boat builders in the world period. i used to work at a custom boat fab shop building doors and windows and stuf like that and we would send stuff to holland all the time. a cheap boat was 10 mil and anywhere up to 300+ mil. crazy stuff. some of my family is from over there. maybe someday ill get to go

Not everyone can adapt to the capitalist lifestyle. I've been to Europe, so I know the difference. It's night and day, but what you guys don't understand, is that the US is not just Los Angeles and NY, there are many parts of the country that we are down to earth and not so materialistic. Venture out a bit and see for yourselves.......Wink
Yes it's a similar story for most places, there's huge diferrences in LA itself from the times I've been, some good and bad,San Diego was beautiful,Vegas was awful,NorCal lovely, and that's just where I've been in California,my opinion obviously, just like I think London isn't that great a representation of England ,mind you it can be night and day every 10 miles or so hereLaughing

exactly- jeffrey would be a podium threat on any track in the US and he'd be a good bet for the win at southwick/ millville in my opinon. If he was there full time then he'd be a title contender. See how roczen does this year, and then consider that jeffrey is on a similar level already (at a younger age)

I would have thought his ride at the des nations (on a hardpack track) might have convinced the US fans of his credentials, but obviously not- guess we will have to wait till the nations this year on a track he likes
ok so lets do the Math:

Wilson( defending champion)
Ratray ( 4 overall's last year and former WORLD CHAMP)
Baggett(5 overall's last year)
Musquin(2x WORLD Champ)
Roczen( 2011 WORLD CHAMP and fastest lites rider in the world according to many)
Tomac(podiums and overall win in class)
Barcia( lites overall and podiums and beat RV and RD straight up on a 450)
Bogle( podiums)
Durham( close to box last yr now on PC bike)
Mookie, Cunningham, Swanepoel, Sipes, Anderson, Davalos, Hahn, etc...all could finish top 10 on any given day.......

SO.....to say that Herlings would be top 5 on his good days is a compliment. If everyone stays healthy, this years lites class will be one of the most stacked and deep fields in a long time. I am sure I am forgetting some as well....

I got the same impression. Maybe he wants to be top dog over there rather than face the depth here?
absolutely laughable comment - . Laughing Laughing Laughing Laughing Laughing Laughing Laughing Laughing Laughing Laughing Laughing Laughing Laughing Laughing Laughing

he is a young un and will take the gp title @ some point over the next 2 years with KTM, if he decides afterwards to do the USA opposed to MX1 then I am pretty sure based on his pace in comparison to Roczen (who will run riot over there) he will also do very very well.

Depth in Lites is much deeper than the MX2 class, but I think he would stay in Europe because he likes it more. Any time the GP guys go to the MXoN they go to beat the AMA guys, not just the American riders, but the AMA guys and in the last 5 or so years there have been plenty of GP guys winning motos in the MXoN.

Depth in Europe isn't a problem and if a guy like Gautier Paulin can win an MXoN moto in 2009 and one in 2011, and he finishes fourth in the MX2 World title then you can see it's not just the Lites class that has good riders.

or you could just wait to see how ken roczen (who is on a very similar level to jeffrey) does in the outdoors this year, and also how herlings performs at the des nations again. He did pretty well this year, he'll have another years experience by the time lommel 2012 arrives, should be interesting!

there is alot of talent in the 'lites' (stupid name) class in the states, theres no denying that- but that doesnt diminish the talent of herlings because he isnt there!

I hope if he does stay in the gps, that he does a few one off ama races for fun!

I am not sure who was "diminishing his talent" but as I stated, if he were to come over this year and finish top 5 it would be a great accomplishment. As for his performance at the MXoN, it was 1 moto.....He finished 7th in the 2nd moto so lets not get all cheerie eyed about that. He is a great rider and has a bright future no matter where he ends up racing.

i only said he did pretty well!!! haha hardly getting 'cheerie eyed' (whatever that means) - he's still very young remember, lots more to come from him in the next 10 years! I'd like to see him race in america, but also like to see him stay in gps!!

Both jeffrey and ken have very bright futures in mx, and will both do very well wherever they race.

Did his trip to America this winter to learn SX dent his confidence and give him a reality check?
If he wins the MX2 title this year and the MX1 class at the MXoN in 2012 will he be the fastest man on the planet? He has an exellent chance of doing both.

He is 5 months younger than Ken and basically are the same age in AMA Amateur racing if you will.... Ken was here last year racing SX so Herlings is behind a bit is his career path compared to Roczen if he chooses to go the US route and race SX...

In GPs he is a year behind... Roczen raced his first year of GPs in 09 when he turned fifteen (missed first 3/4 roundcause he was just 14) Ken was second in '10 then rode SX coming into his third year of GPs,

Herlings rode 2010, but got hurt and missed the end of series. His first full completed year was 2011. So in his thrid year of racing GPs he is trying to win the title... just like Ken.

In SX he is a year behind since he hasn't raced it this year, ( although he did get some practice) but don't forget last year KTM had Herlings in their back pocket if Roczen got hurt in SX, this year they don't have a back up as fast as the title favourite.. so if he got hurt riding the West Rounds KTM could probably kiss goodbye to their world title, so maybe KTM had something to do with it. Plus I don't think he wants to got to the US as bad as Roczen.

I think Herlings said at the US GP he didn't really like the different culture in the US, he also seems to prefer the format of the GPs over two days than the one day format with less riding as it is in the US.

I have been to Holland too and think it is a really nice country... so he is faced with a choice of leaving that to live in a country he doesn't overly like (culturally) and race SX that he doesn't appear to be sold on yet.

Also In the US you race 12 days of outdoor motocross in compared to probably around 40 for him if he raced GPs. So if he prefers racing motocross than SX then that it would be hard to leave.

Anyone who doubts his ability and speed is retarded... he just beat RV on a 350 at the nations on a track that is not his best.

The depth in MX1 GPs is mega... (which is where he will go in 2014 if he doesn't go to the US), so it is not the depth he is scared of.

It seems to me Herlings was taken in by the glamour but has seen the other side to it as well. I wouldn't be surprised to see him race SX before the GPs next season though. As he said he he hasn't really made his mind up... I don't mind where he races, it would be great to see him in the US but nice to see him in MX1 too.
40 outdoor races a year? Am I to assume that it's 1 race a week?

They start riding here in February and stop in October. World, Italian, Dutch, the odd Belgian and Internationals he probably does 30 to 40 races. If you are a Herlings, Cairoli, Desalle or one of the other leading rider fan you sure get your moneys worth.

I can see 30 but not 40 unless of course they take no time off and do no testing.

Right, they were born in the same year(same age although Jeff's birthday is after the racing season is over) and Roczen has done more to date than Herlings has....

I can see where someone deciding not to race here is biased by our country and maybe not so much by the racing/competition. I travel internationally a bit for business, and if I allow myself to look at the States as an outsider, we look pretty darn bad....almost embarrassing.

Personally, I'd like to see the AMA and FIM combine a few races each year into their series. How would that sit with the riders?

Best wishes to Herlings. That young man is a rocket.

You mean the beating where Villopoto gave his inside starting spot to Baggett, then quickly moved through the pack to go from 13th to 3rd, passing Roczen twice, and was all over Herlings' back wheel like a lion going after a gazelle at the checkered flag? That beating?

Yeah, thought so.
