30lbs.

i wish Tony Cairolli's mother had no died, and he had raced that Italy round on the 250SX. you people would be whistling a different tune when he podiumed. he won the championship on a heavier bike that makes LESS power than a 250SX, so it is more than safe to assume he would have at LEAST podiumed on that 250sx.
People forget that the 4-strokes didn't start winning championships until the best started riding them. I recall Mr. Carmichael giving the four strokes loss after loss. I believe that was '04...the year that Windham (not bashing K-dub...he's an amazing rider) struggled to get a win on his 4-stroke against RC, who was still on the 250.

It really is too bad that the playing field isn't more even. I'd bet we could see some amazing performance out of a well-tuned/designed 300-350cc two stroke. People look down on the smokers because of the rideability of the thumpers. I maintain the only reason that's true is because smokers were never developed to have this level of rideability. It doesn't mean it's impossible. If the rules made the smokers more competitive, we would've benefitted from some great advancements in two-stroke technology.

Yup.

I bet we'd see an amazing perforance out of a 250cc 2 stroke with a GOOD rider on it. They CAN compete. They DID compete. It was only a few years ago that they were BEATING the foopers with twice the engine size. It amazes me sometimes that people actually want to argue this topic.

The playing field IS even, it's just that all the top level riders are getting paid to ride the foopers and everyone else just follows suit - yes, even at the pro level. Guess they like to throw their money away...

Well, I'm not sure it truly is "even" from a technology standpoint, but I will agree that if you put RV, Stewie, Dungey, and Reed back on smokers, the four strokes would be taking from 5th place down only.

Honda was just starting to tap into this in 2001 with that RC valve motor, but it went unfinished because the CRF project was more lucrative. they were using technology borrowed from the 500GP (Doohan's bike) and it was rideability they were after. lap times.

Thats why people get on that CR250 and say "it's slow" but they NEVER get out a stop watch/transponder.

Honda is always blamed for the 4 stroke conspiracy, and rightfully so, but they were at the EDGE of something great right there in 2001 and threw it all away, not due to Yamaha and their 400F, but due to FIM/Dorn going to the 990s in motogp, I think.

Hey everybody,

Ok this is gonna be kinda long but its a good read. Yes you are right I was not at A1 racing the smoker. Things just really did not work out the way it was suppose to. On the thread about me a little bit ago I did explain that I was starting to ride sx on my yz250f out here in California, for a few reasons. I just could not afford to buy a bike, even a two stroke. And I just could not wait anymore to see if somebody was going to come through with either helping me out with a demo deal on a bike or some money to even buy a used two stroke. The fact of the matter is, is even after a pretty good outdoors season, where I hit all the rounds, drove to each, (except Washougal, which would of cost my dad and I to drive across the country, and back again, with the way the schedule is layed out) and showed consistency. I was mostly top 25 in every moto, with me running in the teens more than a few times until the bike blew up, five times in five motos. But hey, its all done now and I had fun this season! My point is, is I am really just getting some free product, tires at the races from Brock Glover, he is really nice guy, lives in the same town I do, Scott gear, Moto Tasinari, ect. But I still have to pay for all my bikes, OEM parts, gas, license, race and mechanic fee fee, (expensive). I need some better help, I could not get enough support to really even hit sx. I needed about 4,000 to hit all of west coast lites and could not get the funds up. And that was with re using my old 2011 which had been beat down all summer. I certainly was practicing sx though, not thinking about my money problems, just hoping something would come through, and from how my lap times were and how I was feeling, I was gonna sell my pick up truck to hit west coast. But, while I was in 5th gear in the milestone whoops my front wheel dipped in between two of them, and boom, separated shoulder. So, long story short (not really haha) I am in the process of selling both my 250fs and getting one two stroke yz250. I still have a few calls out to dealerships in about four different states hoping to get a demo deal on a bike. But no matter what, I am going to be at every outdoor national on that yz250, I am very very excited. I have a full program together, going to train very hard. and expect to do well, better than on a 450. Any other questions feel free to ask, I am sure I will be replying again. Lets be excited, I am going to be the one to bring this bike, and how the sport should be, back!!

I think someone should take a KTM 250SX put a 300 kit in it and try to enter it in the nationals. The motor is outwardly visible to the 250 and uses the same pipe so maybe it could get through tech? Sure its a cheater bike but only if you get caught Wink . Put leaded fuel in it and have at it, see how it stacks up against athe 450's.

Joey,

Why YZ250 and not KTM? There is no comparison. it is 45hp vs 53hp, and you are going to need every HP you can get.

and, it may be wishful thinking, but if you go out there at the Nationals, and seriously get that thing into the top 20, multiple times, I would like to think KTM themselves would not turn a blind eye to it. I can say for certain that yamaha won;t give a rat's ass about that YZ250 that has been BNG'd since 2005.

KTM all the way, and pit within eyeshot of the boys in orange. you NEVER know...

no illegal gas or cylinder heads. just a high comp piston, have a two stroke guy go through the cylinder, pipe/silencer, and turn some heads for the RIGHT reasons.

i'm a dirtbag, im the sort of guy that would run a 300 on alcohol, holeshot, and pull off to sign autographs. dont be like me.

hey Machine, we get it, you dont like 2 strokes. But whether your 22 year old A.D.H.D. ass wants to admit it or not, from 1968 or so to 2005, two strokes dominated motocross, and now in 2012, fourstrokes only hold their head above water because of a ridiculous multiple of 2 displacement advantage. now, if you prefer the lazy, no-snap power delivery of a fourstroke, then good on you, no one is faulting you for it.

just give it a rest. you post in every single 2 stroke thread with you "mafia" bullshit. if there were japanese manufacturers mass producing new 2 strokes, you had better believe a lot more people would be on them. Period.

grow the fuck up, kid.
No, you don't get it you skinny assed tough guy avatar wanna be. I have had many 2-strokes, it fact I just sold one of those KTM's you keep bantering about, you moron.

The fact is, I like both of them and last I checked, this was a free country. Free to buy what you want to buy. I just get tired of you fucking whinny assed 2-stroke extremist, going on and on about how great 2-strokes are.
I like 2-strokes, they are a blast, but I also like 4-strokes, because they are easier to go fast on for a longer period of time, especially for us older people like you and I........comprende?

Just stop bitching about it on here, you people sound like a broken record. Do you really think Honda and Suzuki's upper management hangs out on here just to get marketing ideas from some idiot named Charles Bronson?

Btw--Clint Eastwood could kick Charles Bronson's ass up and down the street all day long, so suck it!....Smile

How about if you take a break from this site every once in a while, instead of hanging out on here 24/7.

He has about 13 personalities here at vital. Charles Bronson is just giving in to his narcissistic homosexual delusions of grandeur. When this one ets clicked maybe he can come back as Ricky Martin?

If I remember correctly there were two 2 strokes that qualified for that national last year. I couldn't tell you which race it was at. I believe they both ran solidly midpack as well. Pretty cool!
