How about last season when Hansen one the lites main event and pored the whole can a monster over his head during the podium speech hahaha. That's some sticky shit to be pouring over your head. It looked kinda clear though Wink

Then they go and pull this at the first race of the year, on his very first ride with the team- and all hell breaks loose in a way that makes JGR look very, very bad.

Personally, I don't think its a big deal. But the Stewart haters don't need much fuel to get a fire going...I am just talking in a PR sense here.
And I don't get why people are criticizing Glover here- he seems to have handled it firmly but graciously. According to Bauer he even said he feels for the JGR guys.

It's so obvious that this is like putting wood on an open fire for the js7 haters !

Can't believe people take this so serious !

Its just a tire for god sake ! A tire he used in practise ! The only ones who should care are the tire companies. It doesn't mean a shit for the championship and no harm was done.

And to call this cheating ! Jerks !

Some people in here really make anything in to drama. Specially when Stewart is involved.

Acting like some kind of gossip lady's !

This used to be a sport for men, but the behaviour of modern era fans really makes me doubt it these days !

The behavior of some modern era riders leaves a bit to be desired as well.....

In a way it was cheating....He set the fastest lap on a tire he shouldn't have used and
that got him FIRST pick on the gate.PLEASE dont say first choice of gate is not important.

Cheating means breaking the rules, right? So, tell me where you got your copy of the contract between JGR and Pirelli and show me the passage where it says they can't test other tires. Right.

Look, we're all just having fun chewing on this between rounds, but it is really not a big deal for the sport because it did not appear to affect the results of the race.

By the way, suggesting that the Dunlop was the sole reason he set fast lap is a stretch, you realize that right?

Cheating is breaking the rules laid out by the sanctioning body. Breaking a contract with a sponsor is not cheating. Who knows if using the tire even broke a contract with Pirelli?

Standard contract language for riders/teams with sponsors would prohibit them from using a competitors product as part of the racing effort.
Saying that qualifying practice is just testing a tire is a bit of a stretch too.

I don't think it made the difference in his times and I am not by any means calling for his head over it.....lol.
I am also sure he is not the first rider to engage in this type of thing.....shit happens that we don't know about all the time.

However if I were the folks at Pirelli I would be mighty unhappy about the whole business.

I agree with the concept that "standard contract language" would say such a thing. I say concept because I have never seen a "standard contract" for riders/teams with sponsors. But who's to say the language in the JGR/Pirelli contract is standard? My point is we Vital-dwellers don't know the deal, so all we can do is enjoy the banter about it. But we must admit our ignorance of the facts.

Are we not entertained?? I sure am!

I know enough that when Broc told them they couldn't run the tire...it was wrong of them.

I know when they took a razorblade and took the dunlop sticker off...they knew it was wrong.

I know if they had not been caught they would have raced with it in the main.

I guess if jgr put a Kawi engine in the yamaha frame (because they had one laying around from years past) and put yamaha side covers on it
just to win practice there would be nothing wrong with it right? I mean there are others
racing the kawasaki engines and they aren't illegal...lol

lol.. still going. it's the energizer bunny thread..

bubba ran a bridgestone front tire in one practice allegedly. He ran pirelli front and rear in one practice and ran a Dunlop rear in one practice. My guess is like others mentioned that he was trying to figure out of the setup was off because of his inexperience with Pirelli or if it was his suspension or bike. Always best to go back to a solid baseline setting. Bubba has raced on Dunlop the past year or two but overall, the past 5 or 6 years before Bridgestone pulled out of SXMX they were the tire to beat. The Bridgestone "works" tires were pretty much hand held by Doug Schopinski at all of the rounds. All of the top riders/teams basically were on or wanted to be on Bridgestone. When they pulled out of racing they left a lot of top riders scratching their heads. At that point, bridgestone was not an option, Michelin and Maxxis weren't even in the arena, and Pirelli wasn't quite where it wanted to be either (they had a few teams and riders, but were still developing a program and tires). So pretty much everyone went to Dunlop. I have to credit them that they continued to develop new tires even as it was basically a spec tire series (well, at least brand wise- the top riders still got 'works' tires, everyone else got production tires).

So now JGR has a top rider, and Pirelli is working to develop a tire that fits his riding style and Supercross in general (it's a bit different from MX and MXGP which Pirelli dominates). There are three or four parts to a good tire- obviously the tread pattern, the tread compound, but also the carcass materials and construction. that's the "hidden" part of the tire technology and it what is probably more important part of how it works. In SX the main focus for most riders and teams the past few years has been the tires performance in the whoops. For a lot of teams and riders that's what makes or breaks the races. Watch the riders going thru the whoops and see who's bike is tracking straight and who is getting out of line (and off the gas). It's suspension and setup, but the tires help a lot as well. Dunlop really has advanced the past few years on the handling in the whoops.

overall it's not that bad for all the parties involved, but at the end of the day besides the industry folks who make a living over these things, it really won't matter at all. dunlop will still dominate the field, Pirelli will still dominate in Europe and the average consumer has no idea what brand tires different riders use, let alone that most of the top riders are riding on "works" tires. competition is good, and respect for the other competitors goes a long way. i'm just happy that there are still companies that are supporting the sport, and getting out there every day making better products for "the masses". for the most part the top riders are still healthy, there's going to be great racing every week, and more and more of the racing is live on TV.

Exactly. Supposidly there were 3 Perelli tire people in the JGR pit all weekend, they may have wanted to see first hand how good or bad their tire is, could he go faster on a different tire and how they can improve what they have. For people to think that tires don't make a difference in lap times is dumb. But sorry Kongols I don't think he is going to beat RV this year anyway, the dude is on rails.

Bla bla bla.... You must be a tire guy huh ?

Ofcourse I understand what you are saying. But to make this such a big thing among fans in forums like this is just stupid. As I said earlier, I understand if the tire guys gets fired up on this subject but not people in this forum.

I watched A1 on the ESPN feed on a page that had a chat application on the side.
Some of the comments regarding James were pretty appalling: Nigger this, go back to harlem...
I'm not even sure these guys could pass the basic white trash entrance test.

That's one reason I'm a fan of the guy, I have heard the same garbage at my local track. I have been a fan of the sport 1975 and he has attracted the by far the most douchiest haters that the sport has ever seen. It's a shame because everyone that I know that has met him and his family say they are the nicest people, and they shouldn't have to deal with those idiots, apparently it happens at the races also.
