Bret Michaels “Rock Hard-Ride Hard Award” Returns for
2012 Monster Energy Supercross Season
Season’s Hardest-Charging Rider Will Once Again be Recognized in Las Vegas
AURORA, Ill. (January 5, 2012) – After recognizing owner/rider Chad Reed last season, following an impressive debut campaign by TwoTwo Motorsports/Bel-Ray Racing, Bret Michaels is back with the “Rock Hard-Ride Hard Award” for the 2012 Monster Energy AMA Supercross, an FIM World Championship, season. The award honors the hardest-charging comeback rider of the season, who ultimately pushes himself to the maximum mental and physical limit in search of the coveted Monster Energy Supercross championship.
In the spirit of the undying will to succeed, Michaels is donating thousands of his own dollars as an award to one deserving rider. The award will be presented to the rider, who just like Bret, battled through adversity either on or off the track throughout the 2012 Monster Energy Supercross season. Michaels will personally present the winner with the award at the season finale at Las Vegas’ Sam Boyd Stadium on Saturday, May 5.
In conjunction with Monster Energy Supercross, which will present an unprecedented television package for the 2012 season, the “Rock Hard-Ride Hard Award” winner will be determined by a combination of votes from race fans and a rider’s position in the championship standings. Details on how fans can vote for their choice will be revealed soon.
Feld Motor Sports® Senior Director of Two-Wheel Operations, Todd Jendro shared his thoughts on the return of this unique award, "Bret’s legacy in pop culture is undeniable,” said Jendro. “Aside from being a talented musician, he is also an avid motorcycle rider and has become a true advocate of the sport of supercross. He’s also overcome a lot of adversity throughout his career, and still remains a prominent, well-respected figure."
“It’s not a matter of whether or not you go down,” said Michaels. “It’s about how you fight back when times get tough. These Monster Energy Supercross athletes are without a doubt some of the toughest individuals on the planet, and this is a chance to recognize that.”
Michaels added, “Feld Motor Sports has been a great group to work with and after such a memorable experience last year, I’m excited to bring the ‘Rock Hard-Ride Hard Award’ back for another incredible season of racing."
Beginning this Saturday, Michaels and Monster Energy Supercross fans all over the world will be watching as the fastest riders on the planet begin their 17-race battle to crown a champion.
The 2012 Monster Energy AMA Supercross, an FIM World Championship, season gets underway in just a matter of hours, from Angel Stadium on Anaheim, Calif., on Saturday, January 7, and will be broadcast LIVE on SPEED.
