no, they did, then two stroke technology had some advances and pushed the 4 strokes back out. same with outboard boat engines.
i should of said came and went pretty fast in racing they still are producing some 4 stroke trail sleds but racing its all about the 2 smokers

The difference between those two motor sports and motocross is that we need TRACTION. They have too much traction on a snow mobile and boats are wide open ALL the time.

who said anything about maddo?

im just saying that a 500cc twostroke in a single cylinder configuration is capable of 100hp, easily. a 450 YZ is not. a 500cc two stroke in a multiple cylinder configuration is worth over 200hp.

Wait ...what? 100hp 2 stroke 500 single? Not.

HEAVILY modded 80hp maybe. You'd have to run power boosters like alcohol or even nitrous. Not practical for a jump bike. They need to be fast but reliable and thats why Im guessing he didnt have JGR breath on that 450 more.

Snowmobiles have more track spin than dirtbikes! If your speedo says you put 80 miles on a snowmobile you really only went 40 because of trackspin. You have no clue what you are talking about, I guess if you dont know what you are talking about its OK to just make things up.

Aint NO traction there!! You speedo says your going 100mph and you might be going 25mph.

Does Maddo have Tourette's? Before his first test run where they held him for awhile his head was twitching like crazy. After the big jump when they showed shots of him hugging his family he was twitching a lot then as well. It seemed more subdued when he was getting interviewed. No disrespect meant, just something I noticed.

It really seemed like it picked up when they held him on the line for the first run for so long, I was wondering then, and after the jump he was really shaking his head. He didn't shake much when being interviewed though. It kinda had me thinking when he said it was really important to not lean to one side of the bike . Last New Year's is what made a fan of his though.
Glad they both made the jump safely!!! Congrat's Maddo and Levi!!!

Is he half-finnish? Back in mid 80s they had a guy in Finland that jumped a ski-stadium-jump. Totally crazy! He could probably done this backwards because that was his speciality. Don't remember his name but drunk him under the table on a discothec during trophee de nations in Varberg Sweden. Where of course USA won and i saw Ward etc for the first time and haven't found my jaw yet. (dropped it when Ward passed me and friends uphill with throttle wide open and bike 90degree against trackdirection, saved it and just pushed harder next lap. Can any Finn by the way refresh my old brain? What was his name? And he had whole alphabets disorder probably?

Please show me an example of a 500cc two stroke single making 100hp - easily. Or even not easily.

Please show me an example of a 500cc two stroke multi-cyclinder making over 200hp.

Stock 800's are around the 160 mark.

And sleds have too much traction?

I think some were into the bubbly a little too much last night...

Found a better camera angle than the live one for those that haven't seen others.

This will work.
First vid I see of the jump but when reading this thread I don't have to look for other footage.
Thanks for posting.

This is better then all the ESPN replay shots I've seem, it shows the speed and how long they are in the air for the most part. Would be awesome to have been there

Sad that some guy in the audience with his iPhone can do better that professionals with the money of ABC and a successful snake oil salesman.

A lot of the time with TV cameras is they put them higher up to cover a larger area to get the shots but it does not give the perspective of how high and big the jump is. Wider and lower angle shots like this show just how fast and big that jump is, same can be said for some of the public vids from SX's which give you a better perspective of the track and what the riders are jumping. I'm surprised they did not have a camera or 2 on the ground side on from a bit of a distance, a shot from a boat would have been ideal

I admit I don't shit about snow mobiles but you just made my point for me. Since there is NO traction, that is why a two stroke works well in snow. It just revs like crazy. No need for torque. Same with a boat.

That's a cool photo of you, by the way. If I lived where it snowed, I'd probably be into that sport as well.
