Ok before i start this im not passing blame at all on this..I buy a 09 KXF 450 with 52 hours on it supposedly thats what the hr meter read..ride the thing for a hr and half and wipes out the head and intake cam..it was breaking up tried everything the previous owner told me to to clear up the problem..plug, fuel pump etc..Take the valve cover off the bike the intake cam is no good so we pull cams do leak down holds 0 % and its all leaking out air box.the guy advertised bike as needing nothing mint ready to go..what should i do guy at first offered to pay for parts on repairs now hes all set with situation and doesnt want to do anything..the head is completely junk also where the bucket goes its all filed out and messed up bad also does anyone have a head for sale..
That's why I'm scared to buy used 4-strokes, you never know how they maintenance them if at all.
If in fact he knowingly sold you a messed up bike... he is a douche. If it was fine for him and he sells it to you then it craps out it puts him in a tough spot.
If it ran fine for an hour for you before acting up maybe it really ran fine for the guy who sold it to you.
Mechanical wear like you are describing does not come and go with engine warm up time. So... you should have noticed something was "off" listening to it run when making the purchase... assuming you ran it and rode it before handing the guy cash.
Take whatever the guy is offering and get your tools out... or sell it for parts and buy another bike.

Its the buyer's responsibility to look over the bike not the seller to show u the problems....
Did u road test it?
Moral of the story, 4 strokes buy new and 2 strokes buy used
I just sold my '09 crf250r with 74hrs on the meter. It was to a 15 year-old who from Nantucket who came with his dad to check out the bike. The kid had worked all summer to save up for a bike, and his dad was helping him get it. Talking with them you could tell that they were "good people". Not the typical shithead teenager that seems to be the norm today. I told them I had nothing to hide, left the hour meter on the bike instead of lying and saying "it has low hours". I took care of it religiously, and I was selling it because I bought a new 450r...Not because the bike was clapped out. He loved the bike and we worked out a deal. I told him if he had any questions to just give me a call, I wasn't going to disappear after I got my money. A couple weeks later he actually wrote me an email thanking me for selling him the bike, that he loved it, and he was having a great time riding. Yep there are still kids out there like that today. Crazy right?
You know what happened next? He texted me a couple months later "I was riding and it was making a funny noise, then just stopped, could you check it out for me to see if it needs something?" Shitty. His dad came by with the bike a few days later. I took the motor out while he was there, and showed him what happened. 9 hours on the meter later and the lower connecting rod bearing let go, exploded inside both cases..He was bummed, but in no way did he blame me for it breaking down. He just said "Let me know what it needs and i'll pay the bill".
I spoke with my friend who owns a Honda dealer, told him I really want to help them out and not be "that guy". He gave me a sizeable discount on OEM parts but the list was long and after everything arrived it was $1300 in parts alone. So I did what I felt was right and I put up $650 of my own money and did all of the labor to rebuild the motor and get the bike running. I wasn't asked to contribute any money, or in any way was I required to do the work to fix it. His dad came and picked up the bike and a few days later I got another email from his son:
Hey Gabe,
Merry Christmas! I just wanted to let you know how grateful I was that you fixed my dirt bike. My best christmas present this year was having my dirtbike fixed. I know how many hours you put into the bike, and I understand that you payed for half of the parts and i just want to say that was really nice of you. Thank you so much for everything.
P.S. whatever goes around comes around, and i am hoping to do something for you sometime soon. Whats your address?"
Moral of the story? Not everyone who sells a used 4-stroke is an asshole or a shyster. And not every buyer is coming back to the seller looking for a freebie....There are still some good people out there. Hopefully you can get something worked out to get the bike up and running.

lol the bike only had 50 hours on it yet he did a top end 5 hours ago on a 450? that doesn't add up, unless he raced alot.
Gabriel J:
I applaud what u did but IMO it was too much. There is a line between being nice and being used....
If the guy owns a shop, he really should help you in some way, since he obviously knew the engine was tired. If he dosen't help the old saying goes: "Bad news travels fast"
Slow down and t y p e s l o w l y.
