In the Racer X article Reed states that when RC came back in 04 he was so fast. Then said no one has gone that fast since then. So, let's test his theory. See if one of you can dig up the laptimes from the 04 nationals all the way thru 2011 nationals, and let's see if his average times were consistently quicker. Not counting track changes or muddy races. Discuss.

Lap times year to year are incomparable. Even if they are only 1 year apart, and no obstacles have changed, the tracks/conditions will still be different. I'd assume so at least.

You would have to assume that the track was prepped the same every year and had the precise same layout down to the braking bumps and ruts... so I don't think you'll prove much. I think the best we have to go by is a guy like Reed who raced then and now. And it's not like Reed is slower now... He did win a ton of outdoor races this year.

I'll just take his word for it.

I don't buy it. RC and JS pushed each other to go faster than either had gone before that. Reed just wasn't close enough to see.

RC was always a badass, and say what you will... but JS is the one that reallllly took the sport to an almost gross level.

Remember in the 1st TGO and they filmed Ricky go by, and waited...and waited...and waited for second place (i think it was Timmy Ferry) and it was like a FULL minute lead. It was cool as the camera just sat in the corner RC had ripped by, and sat there waiting...

Here's my theory:

IMO Reed has not gotten faster in the last couple of years

So JS or RC would destroy RV and RD in the outdoors....

That is the one moment of clarity Ryno has had in his entire life, other than humping that piece of shit KX125 to the finish line with a broken chain.

Carmichael never, ever laid all his cards on the table. on the track, or off. in a moto, or in an interview. you ever notice how he had that sly manner of speaking? as if he was hiding something? he was. and until someone figures out what it was, no one will ever go that fast.

HA!!....no worries.....I aint gonna compare my moto history with yours , you fucking walking dictionary!

I think it was the great oudoors I was thinking of. The guy who narrates it sounds like a hillbilly....you know the one?

I "would" like to see those clips though if you have a link Scottie....I don't think I have ever seen them. I haven't really seen anything much past the original Crusty believe it or not. I gotta get caught up on these things one day.

Whenever someone came close to rc he upped his pace. I think he really had more all the time. His last year at southwick, it was like he was at war with the track. He would not let off the gas until he passed you or hit the ground. Remember how far he went off the finish line to pass js? Both feet off the pegs way out into the flat. The guy was just the best in the outdoors

Great points. RC was the best. Hard to believe people forget so quickly.

RC time in 04 to 06 proves that the track is different every year.

Or maybe that he was slower on a 4 stroke than a 2 stroke! :0

It is Scottie....way to many variables from year to year. Not to mention layouts ect....

Bottom line is.....when he raced....most of the time he was untouchable.

Nailed it in that last sentence. He was the best in the outdoors.

Outdoors only though.
