Seasons greetins guys.. Just a quick question. im wanting to buy a carbon fuel tank cover from lightspeed for a 2005 cr250. On their website they dont have one listed for my bike.. But have them for the crfs..
I was wondering if any of the 250fs or 450fs fuel tank years would be the same as my 05 cr250 2 stroke? So i can just buy one made for four strokes and it would fit on my bike? Thanks in advance

I would hazard a guess that if they said they dont make one for your bike then ones they do make wont fit. If it fit, Im sure they would list it as so.

That being said why not just order one and try it? But when it dosen't fit, please don't go off on Lightspeed, they told you they didnt have one for your bike.

Dude.

What exactly does a "fuel tank cover" do? This is the first I've heard of this product.

Ditto. WTF do you want a fuel tank cover for? Seems like a collosal waste of money. Looks like a product intended to make a guy's bike LOOK like it has a carbon fiber, larger than stock, fuel tank like the factory guys run. Makes NO sense on the planet to me. Even if you could buy the trick looking fuel tanks the pros use, there is NO need for them for local amateur races which are only 15 minutes long.

No offense dude, but blow your money on something useful instead of going on a wild hunt for something completely useless.

I'm all for cool looking stuff, but that thing seems so dumb it's not even funny. A carbon fiber fuel tank cover? What's next, a carbon fiber seat cover cover?

Again, no offense dude. Just seems like you could spend money on a LOT of other useful things before buying something so lame.

BP, if the guy wants to spend his own money, why do you care? I think it's a cool little touch.

If you want the carbon fiber look, just wrap the top of the tank in 3M Di-Noc.

You could always go the super cheap route and buy that plastic backing that looks carbon fiber.

Camp.. great suggestion! Im about to make an order right now from this place..http://store.carbonfibergear.com/3m-di-noc-carbon-fiber-vinyl Thanks man
I do this stuff for a living. That site is way to expensive!

IMO Its going to look like crap because u ain't got the skills. Its going to have to be multiply pieces butted together because of how round it is. Also u need a heat gun to stretch the vinyl and seal the edges.

There's some guy who made some of these for his bike on TT,maybe you could make
your own mold of the tank and do the same. Actually I think it would look cooler if you hammered
one out of aluminum.

Won't the gas fumes cause it to bubble?

If it does to normal graphics then it will do it to carbon vinyl

That's what I thought. So it really isn't an alternative. Unless a guy wants to change it once of month.

That being said, I guess they don't offer it for the kxf450. I might have bought one.

Ever heard the old saying "ask a stupid question, get a stupid answer"???

The guy at the company told you it wont fit, yet you dont believe him and you ask a bunch of guys who have probably never tried it because the guy at the company told them it wont fit. Then you get butt hurt because someone thought it was a dumb question. See the irony here?

This is Vital, not Thumpertalk.

He obviously had Christmas money burning a hole in his pocket.
12/26/2011 1:00pm
hey man I like the cover. So here is what I would do.

Go on a website that sells gas tanks like IMS. cross reference partnumbers for gas tanks.. see if any of them are the same. then you will have your answer.

However, I think the gas tank hang up is that big stupid piece of shit cylinder head with 246 moving parts inside of it being shoved up underneath the tank on the CRF.

unicam vroom vrooooooooom (fwack!) youtube (laughter)

p.s. I like that CR.

Wrap material has microscopic holes that ease installation without bubbles. This allows it to stick to fuel tanks with far less bubbling.

There's a place on ebay that sells a 12x12 sheet of Di-Noc for $7 delivered. For $7, it's a cheap experiment.

BTW, I've had wrap material on one of my tanks for a year and it's still bubble free, but I do try to drain the tank after every ride.

ok, i need to cross refrence, but its looking like the 02-04 CRF 450 one might do the trick. the 250F ones wont for sure.

different part numbers.

i wouldnt do it.
