From RacerX
It is obvious to all that not only is Villopoto back at the top of his game, he’s also getting better and stronger—no matter how hot it gets.
Behind him, there are some real wrecks, from spent bikes to spent bodies.
But everyone is starting to talk about one wreck in particular. Jason Lawrence of the Yamaha of Troy team acted like he was on Spring Break in Texas, and it caught up with him in a hurry when he cart-wheeled through the whoops, then was fortunate to walk away from his second big crash of the weekend.
Talent is a terrible thing to waste.

You know this place is getting old. Topics used to just roll off the first page. Now, they just kind of linger like an old upper decker. All this bashing of Reed, J-Law, Hill, and JBS, it's old and tired. Ok you don't like J-law, we get it, does everyone feel they need to point it out in every post?
It's their life, let them live it. If you are all so smart about what it takes to win, why didn't you become pro? These guys are where they are, not from listening to a bunch of whiney ass cry babies on the net.
Everyone is entitled to their opinion, but damn, the slam fest is getting old. You know it's the same old guys too.
I used to hit this board as much as I could, everytime I signed online this was the first place I would go. Now maybe twice a day. Before I would spend a half hour reading new topics and chiming in here and there. Now, there's nothing new, and I'm caught up on the new topics in 5 minutes. Topics used to go for 6 pages, now three is a high number.
Is this really what Guy B had in mind when he merged the two boards?
Back to the post at hand. Pissing their careers away? Not very likely, did you see how many threads are about the two of them here? They get more play here than JBS, and RV. Just cause they are not doing what you all think they should, doesn't mean they are pissing their careers away. J-Law has always been outside the box, and so far he's having a better career than any of you had in mx.
Sorry for the rant..carry on.....
As far as JLaw and others, it is their life and therefore they are going to choose the path for it. As far as wasted talent, I think that is a crock of BS. Here is a 21 year old with the weight of the world on his shoulders. Until anyone of us could even catch a glimpse of his rear fender on a track, I don't think we have the right to be judgmental or especially presuppose what he "Should" be doing. Again it is his life and his decisions.
a west lites supercross title.
What is bad is that he has peaked with that.
Opps...sorry...there may be a "National" arenacross champ title in his future.
What you bunch of ronron transplants don't realize is that a lot of us have been around long enough to see this little scenario play out 100 times.
The story line is "gifted young rider never realizes full potential because they are too busy being a twit".
Jlaw is just the latest actor to play the part.
It usually doesn't last long and then they fade away.
In two years people will have to look in the forum archives to see who "jlaw" was.
O and I am not a nube... the whole switch screwed up my log-in.
cuz u tipe like 1.
ronron needs you back over there as an admin.
Where does this "weight of the world" crap come from? He's a spoiled, snotty 21 year old (not that there is anything wrong with that)...
Will he survive it? Will he do something good in MX? Will he fade away after a few injuries?
I'd say the odds are not in his favor. I just hope that he doesn't kill someone when he gets behind the wheel of a car next time.
S
I know for a fact he has a hell of lot more to deal with than I did when I was 21. I am not trying to justify his actions, but the are not our actions... They are his. We can talk all the smack we want and until Jlaw himself decides on a direction (positive or negative) none of this means shit.
Pit Row
The weight of the world is an excuse for his behavior. He doesn't need an excuse. Those are his choices.
If anyone noticed, on TWMX's Monday Kickstart column, they chose to take the higher road and not even mention all of the jlaw rumors or crashes...just did a great, unbiased race report giving kudos to those riders who did well.
I USED to be a huge Racer X fan, but I think I'll only be going to twmx.com from now on. Maeda does a better job anyway.
I am still amazed at the things some people will say about the athletes that make up the sport they supposedly love. It's one thing to have spirited, lively discussions... it's quite another thing to just rag on people for being flawed humans, a rather large sub-group that includeds ALL OF US. Some here dog kids for being kids, men for being men, women for being women, racers for racing, reporters for reporting... and it goes on and on and on... end rant (for now).
Jason Lawrence is no choirboy, that much is obvious. But if you saw him attack the track at Glen Helen in moto one, well, you saw a guy doing what all of us only dream about, and only in our best dreams. For those 30+ minutes, J-Law was THE law in the 250 class. After seeing that performance, I think it's safe to say that we have NOT seen the last flash of brilliance from that young man.
