Chameleons are fun and pretty easy to take care of. We had a pair of Veiled Chameleons a few years back. Even my wife enjoyed watching them snatch up the crickets with those foot-long tongues, and she can't stand reptiles in general. I'd like to get a Jackson's eventually - just so cool with those horns.

I have a serious reptile question. Nobody seems to have the answer. I've looked everywhere, extensive research that came to no avail. OK. Is the Gieco Gecko Australian or British? He almost answered this in one of his ads, but they cut him off. That really pissed me off.

Yeah man, the 1% that told the federal government to piss off years ago and stopped supporting them. Grinning
I mainly deal with non-us companies now-a-days,which do not comply with us law / mainly the FTC ....

Badass! i had a kickass Iggy named Thermo, got him young and he grew like a weed and became a true "pet". His home was a 120gallon plexi aquarium and he would jump out of it and cruise around all day, then go back in at night and sleep.

I fell asleep on the couch one day and the window above his home was open and he got out, 4 days later my neighbor yelled from their backyard, "he Scottie your dinosaur is over here!" We got him back, but a couple months later it happened again and we never got him back, we had a creek behind our backyard and i bet he made his home there and grew to be a monster. They are way cool creatures though!
They will walk right up to us here. The smaller ones are a bit scared and scamper off if you make a move towards them but the big ones just stand their ground. A few months ago, before I got here, A guy was sleeping in a beach chair with his hand hanging over the edge and one of the big ones walked up to him and took the tip off of his finger. The general concensus is that the Iguana though it was a hot dog because the people at the beach feed them all the time. Other than that, they are very peacefull creatures.

All the rain recently has raised the river behind my house forcing the critters to higher ground. While talking to my neighbor the other day on my front porch I just happened to notice a 3 ft. Rattler in my planter not more than a foot from where she was standing. I smashed that sucker with a big clay pot without telling her what I was doing. She thought I was nuts until I showed her the snake. It had rattles and was shaking its tail but they were`nt big enough to make noise. Scary shit when I think about how much my grand daughter runs in and out of the house all day.

I heard that the little ones are more deadly because they inject more venom than is necessary (plus, like you noticed, their rattle is less audible). Older/bigger snakes learn to bite and release but the little ones bite and hang on, injecting much more venom.
I cut the head off with a shovel and showed the wife and kids about 15 min. later and that sucker was still trying to bite anything that moved. I`ve had to kill my share of coral snakes and mocassins over the years but this was the first rattler I`ve seen close to the house. I didn`t realize the fact about being more deadly but it makes sense. Hopefully, that one was a loner and it`s siblings moved in the opposite direction.

From what I have heard...normally the bigger/older rattle snakes will dry bite you just to protect themselves.
They dont like to waste their venom unless it is for food purposes. Their generally not really an aggressive snake, unless they feel threatened and cant escape,or you surprise one.
The smaller rattle snakes normally always bite with venom, especially the juvenile pygmy rattlers and like Bullpen said, they inject a lot venom.
I'm sure you have seen on the news people getting bit by the pygmies down here, there were a few people bitten in even like Walmarts yard & garden section over the past few years or so.Their normally the culprits when you hear about someone getting bit down here and being hospitalized the majority of the time. Their rattles almost sound like a fly or bee type buzz, rather then something being shaken.
