I can't really get a grip of this "relation" we have with the pros'. In many areas we are very distanced from them, and the hierarchy between them and us are almost painful, as in us despite being hardcore riders, racers etc totally being a non factor (like the 95% group GuyB points out we belong in), basically just a pain for the involved. But it just pushes some of our egos further down that ladder.

But at the same time this place offers some kind kind therapy, or coping as the posibillity to find some flaws in these mini Gods. Outside the track, as performers in relations, politics, religion there's a new hierarchy that in some cases could level things out and we could go from being non factors within the biz, to become pros' outside in some way. And it's very appealing since the pros' also take a bite in that boring regular thing the rest of us are forced to live in, and it's a factor in their racing careers as well...

Maybe that could be the reason some are keen in pointing out these flaws? Just to level things out, to feel we all belong? Smile

Just saying of course...

These racers weren't prepared for this. I have had many friends race pro over the years. It's kinda hard not to read stuff about you. Even alot of celebrities do the same. These kids just wanted to race dirtbikes. They didn't want all the hate that can come along with it. It's even like Brandon Mays everyone bashes him until he releases a video telling his story then people turn their views. Give these kids a lil break.

Matthes I like all of your interviews that you do. Also the same with the guys from DMXS. You touched on it the other night in your show. If these racers embraced the media it would help on so many different levels. People just want to hear from these guys and get the "inside scoop." MX needs to make some progress in this stuff. People love hearing about things they shouldn't be hearing. That's why most of us listen to all the interviews, podcast and any other things with rider interaction. Me personally I watch pretty much every video or interview posted regarding the motocross world. We all have 1 thing in common we all love motocross.

Riders media can be your bestfriend. It's all how you utilize it! The more marketable and media friendly you make yourself the better it will be for you and your career!

Whether you like it or not this wasn't his 1st choice. Do I think he is the next eminem. No way absolutely not. However if he has an opprotunity to talk about something he loves and make money who the fuck wouldn't do it. Your outta your mind if you wouldn't. However if I was faced with never being able to ride again but had an opprotunity to live a rockstar life rapping about moto you bet your ass I would do it. Gives these kids a break. All Mays is doing is exposing our sport to a other genre of people. Your obviously one of the people that these riders and industry people cringe at the thought of.

Also touching on his daddy's money. Who gives a shit where his money came from. Most of these pro got where they are cause of family. It's what I want to do for my kids someday. Honestly my father lives, eats and bleeds moto. However he never wanted me to e a pro racer cause of the fear of something happening to me. He would be pumped if I could make a living doing something that isn't going to put my body at risk. If your going to hate on someone's family providing their kids with the means to seek out their drams then go run your car into a tree.

Sorry I just see why these riders thnk people on here are brain dead!

This is a good post and I agree with most of it. While I agree being more media friendly can help a lot of things, but it is not going to get rid of the original topic of people bashing the riders online. It may help in some cases but it just gives fuel to the idiots who only see what they want see, and here what they want to here. If you trace back every shit talking idiot 99% of the time it will go back to someone who is an extreme fanboy of a rider that is the direct competition of the rider they are bashing. I am glad that the top guys make very good money, it is a extremely dangerous sport at that level and they deal with some of the douchiest Haters on the planet.

I like Villopotos style in interviews. Dungey is a bit stiff on interviews, but that's ok too, that is his personality or that is how he wants people to see him. People can dog on him but he has a very professional attitude and it shows in his interviews, he is all business.

Villopoto should say what he wants. Now if I were him I would not disrespect his fans by calling them names but I though it was cool when he called out BobbyM and to do that to an individual is ok once in a while when they are out of control. But that is his personality. I would hate it if everyone interviewed like Dungey or Villopoto. I would rather see their personality, the good, the bad, the ugly. Though most try to hide the ugly, that is fine too.

What really counts is can they ride and both RD and RV can, I don't care what they sound like in an interview, I am just glad they are both motivated enough and get paid enough to entertain us with some great racing.

Some people will hate poto but they are probably the minority, while others may favor other riders, and some are fickle. It is a mixed bag just like the riders are a mixed bag.

If I was going to break it down by board participant, it would probably look something like this:

5% of posters who actually know what's up. They also generally post the least, usually only when they actually have something to say.

45% of posters are the vocal majority who are pretty sure they know what's up, and post frequently.

10% include a vocal minority who are pretty sure they know what's up, but generally post how they think things should work, rather than how they actually work.

10% have no clue whatsoever, but post like they think they do.

5% just want to stir up crap and cause trouble.

25% read, but don't post.

You have to pick and choose what you read, and who you believe. There are nuggets of good stuff scattered amid the...uh, rest of it.
what if you kicked your 5% habit and retired your fishing tackle? There are those few people who saw the light or had a change of heart.

You can either embrace this place (ala DV), or totally completely ignore it. Thats it. Any half thing here or there, will just wear you down.

But as a pro rider, here is something EVERYONE needs to know straight up and its not a choice... you better hike up your big girl panties, cowboy the fuck up, and get some thick skin to go with that 6 figure salary to do what you love to do. Thats the price and we have far far far to many riders that are too big of a ... puss... for their own good much less the sports.
Right the fuck on.

Haha how is he alienating the fans? I like RV and am glad he gives it straight. He realizes he has real fans and he also realizes there are douches that are going to bash his every move. He doesn't have to sit there and sugar coat it and say he loves everyone associated with mx, the interweb, who has a Kawasaki, etc...

Got it Jay but put yourself in his spot. He does an interview with me and gets criticized for it but if he does one like Dungey does most of the time, he'll get criticized for that like RD does. Then he's got idiots spewing rumors about his chick, his training (with providing absolutely zero proof) and eventually what he'll do is just turn into this guy that doesn't want to talk for fear of people slamming him. Then we can just call him James Stewart because that's what I believe happened to James, he just doesn't want to deal with anything anymore. He's tired.

People can spend their money anyway they wan to but they aren't "owed" an explanation or for a rider to act the way they would which happens all too often around here. If you don't like a rider then don't support them with your (virtual) cheers. The sense of entitlement by "fans" simply amazes me sometimes.

AND once again, for the 983rd time, let me once again reiterate that the industry cares way, way too much about what people say on here.
seems like the issue is him...rv is one of the best in the world maybe the best, he can fight through pain to hit the biggest whoops in the world at speed. he can train like an animal and when he thinks it's too painful to quit he keeps going...yet he pays attention to dipshits and fuckups who's only workout is hammerring away on a keyboard and the only weapon they possess is a sharp tongue and a quick wit...if that.

who has the fucking problem here?

I get the impression riders hear about stuff on here from other people- "oh dude, they were talking smack on you over at Vital." It sets up an antagonistic relationship. I am surprised that more riders haven't gotten on here to defend themselves. Sort of glad they don't.
In that Motoconcepts thing, DV12 is smart to come out and be honest and tell his side without burning bridges (that haven't already been burned) and quashing what would have been a lot of speculation and accusations based on nothing.

Fans in any sport talk a lot of shit on message boards. It's tough to be in a spotlight but for the most part you have to just live your life. I think most pro athletes or people in the spotlight in general know they can't please everybody and just don't really give much of a shit. They have people close to them and that's all that matters, not us and I'm fine with that.

The riders are much closer to the fans than say a football player via autograph lines and even staying at the same hotels as the average race fan so they hear it one way or another.

Sorry Mathes, that is what being a celebrity is all about, could you imagine if there was a gossip magazine for MX? Or what if RV had stalkers, that were threatening his life. That is the celebrity's life and RV better get use to it. Could he sue people for defamation sure but he won't win unless he can prove monitary damages. He should be happy GuyB is not outside his house or local grocery store trying to get the nastiest pictures or pictures of him talking to some girl suggesting he may have a new girl friend.

Villopoto can take stock in that there are a lot of fans that like him and want him to win. He should focus on people who want to see him win. There will always be fans that say bad stuff about him.

So get over it and deal with it, it will probably get worse before it gets better, soon they will be saying he is washed up.

RV doesn't seem like a dummy-- as we all know many of his peers are boneheads but marrying that chick was the WORST thing he could of did.

These girls are gold diggers to the max, however..ill be honest..if I had that kind of loot and worked that hard i'd want to slay top shelf pussy too.
Wow. Do you actually believe the garbage you are spewing?? So tell me, how long have you known RV and his wife? How much time per week do you spend hanging out with them?

What? You DON'T know them??? Well then please tell me how the fuck do you know that she and these "other girls" are gold diggers. Please enlighten us all.

I don't believe it man, I KNOW it. The truth hurts man
