I just wanted to extend a big thank you to family members and members who serve our country in the armed forces. My little brother, who rides, just graduated basic training in Parris Island SC in the Marines. As an older brother, I now look up to him for what he is sacraficing to be a Marine. I couldn't be more proud of him, and I want to really say I appreciate and thank you to those who serve and family members of those who serve.

i got out in 07.

if he wants to ride, tell him to try and get to 29 palms. its only about an hour and 10 minutes from glen helen and another 30 minutes or so to elsinore, perris, and 2 and a half hours to las vegas for all the races. not to mention you can leave a bike outside in the zero humidity and it wont rust.

Ebers - you are welcome but remember we chose this life, it has afforded me a lot of life options and after 25 years (Army) I wouldn't change much. Good luck to your little brother after boot camp it takes a special person to be a Marine (my father and brother were both Marines, father was a Drill Instructor, both converted to Army pilots later). No problem admitting they are the hardest service to join.

Its a lot of sacrifice but it is also a lot of reward, mainly by people thanking me for my service everytime they see me in uniform. I have had MANY of free lunches because of great people that will not take no for an answer.

Mojave sucks the BIG one, given my druthers, I'd stick to Pedleton or Kanehoe Bay.

Kaneohe wouldn't be great for moto. Only one track on Oahu, though they were talking about building another one at Sand Island. Its a good track, and some decent trails for the limited amount if land they available to ride.

Hawaii is pretty rough. Depends on which part of the island for the racism. I live in the most racist part of Oahu, Waianae. The worst part about being stationed here is the wife hates being so far away from her family, which seems to be quite common among the others I know stationed here. She is pretty miserable here.

I liked being stationed at Fort Belvoir, VA. Blue Diamond in Delaware was a great track, and I got to go see my first outdoor national at Budds Creek. Pretty easy to take a road trip to catch a supercross race or two from there as well.

Congrats dude! we are in the same boat, my adopted little bro recently graduated from boot in the Marines and is now away at MCT. I cant fully relate to how you are feeling.

Gotta disagree with you a little bit on Okinawa. I know where the impression you have comes from and I'm not saying it doesn't exist at all, but I spent 10 years there. Did 3 tours. Rode MX the entire time and had a blast with lots of good friends which included Okinawans and all 4 services. Really, my only problem in Okinawa was not the locals. It was all the ridiculous rules the military puts in place, usually as a result of some Marines doing something stupid. Of course it's not all the Marines, but a select few just have to ruin it for everyone else. We had lots of Marines in our crew (including LtCol above!) who concentrated on MX and got along just fine. Then there are the guys who, for some reason, think that when they go to a foreign country it's OK to rob cab drivers and do other stupid stuff.

Anyway, don't want to ruin an awesome thread. Let's all just keep a clear head and enjoy MX wherever we are.

It is always the few bad apples that ruin the barrel! Unfortunate. That being said, California is MX heaven! just tell your brother to watch who he "hangs" with in the MC, some are just out to lunch and shouldn't be representing the nation, sometimes you wonder who the recruiters are or where their fine line is, when it comes to whom they allow in the services!!!???!!! That is however; for another thread!!

Best duty station for riding for the Premix listed reasons. Also I could drive out of my garage and hit some dez trails.
Pentagon wasn't so bad either. Budds Creek 45 mins away. High Point about 2.5.
I saw more nationals stationed in DC than ever before in my life.
Budds, High Point, Steel CIty, WIck, DIlla All within reasonable driving range

Thanks for posting guys, and Motox85, thats neat to hear you say you chose that life. I think thats the most incredible part, you guys and my brother have chose to sacrafice things that most people (including myself) don't understand.

I'm not sure what my brothers plans are for riding when he gets stationed, but he's psyched to get back on the bike while he's home for a few days. It's a neat deal to be a part of though for sure, and after seeing this from the family side, it gives a greater perspective to alot of things in life for me.

I just turned 18 and my dad was in the army for 22 years (just recently retired in September) as a colonel and so I've moved around my entire life and he's gone to Iraq twice and it's tough being his son and having to go through all the deployments and moving around. The cool thing is we lived about an hour from Victorville in Cali and that's when I first started riding so I got to ride at all those tracks and also lived in Kansas so got to experience Ponca City amateur nationals which was fun. But thanks to your bro for serving our country along with my dad really appreciate it!
