Had blood work done last week, got the results Tuesday. My Alanine Transaminase (ALT) is at a 73.

Anyone know just how bad that is?

I am not a doctor, and I didn't stay are a Holiday Inn last night, but from everything I goggled (I am a goggle expert) I don't think you should be so worried. Doctors could use a little better bedside manner today. They shouldn't leave a person hanging like they are doing to you. Just goggle "My ALT is 73"

Do they know why?
Do you drink a lot? Do you take tylenol or pain killers that have tylenol?

I had lab work done a few months ago and my ALT was 46.

It's pretty fucked up that they'll give you the results and not tell you what they mean.

See if you can find a new doctor before your regular asshole comes back.

Don't dwell on it and try to enjoy your weekend.

I hope you're gonna be fine, if that helps.

Hope its not too serious Wolfman, obviously try to chill on the drinking but I know it isn't that easy. I'm sure I drink way too much with my crazy friends also. I agree with everything Jim said, the doctor should have been very detailed with you. Good luck and keep us posted.

The liver is like an oiled air filter. Run small amounts of alcohol through it each day and the oil, (liver fats in this case) flushes out. This causes dry pockets throughout the liver, which get infected and swell. Many times an awkward beer belly is a swollen liver.
I always say beer is 10 times as damaging as pot.

I hope you can get help from some med intervention, and refraining from alcohol. Good luck, Man.

I think that means your alcohol system has too much blood in it. I would treat this condition immediately.

An ALT of 73 isn't that bad. . Cut back on the drinking and the liver should heal itself in time.

Of coarse everyone is different, but I have a father in law that is 86, and he starts drinking at around ten in the morning, passes out at around 2:00, wakes up for a second round and last till around seven every day. He's been doing this for 30 years now.

I agree with Sonny on the use of marijuana.

I have a minimum of 2 beers a day. I bet I'm over 100 easy.

Wolfman, this is nothing to worry about. A one time, isolated, minimally elevated liver enzyme needs nothing but a recheck in a few months. Hell, tying one on one time can elevate this enzyme like that....

Don't sweat this. Just call your doc next week, and my money says he'll tell you he wants to recheck it in a couple of months.

I'll send you my bill......

I have a friend who's a pharmacist at the local Costco. They just got in a new natural suplement call Liver health or something like that. Comes in 1000mg dosage. I started taking it about two weeks ago, so no idea if it's doing anything. If not that, start taking milk thistle, another natural that helps flush out the Liver.

Wow. I havent heard that in years, it came out before I lived here. Damn, now there is a McDonalds, a Star 20 Movie theater, Chilis, Applebees, Rib Crib, and a couple of nice new hotels. This town has really grown in the last several years.

Probably all thanks to Roy D!
