sorry if this was already posted but i saw this video today. I was watching the races from the DC hospitality area right next to the big floating hip jump/table top. They had some Trophy Trucks do a demo on the track and one of the idiots decided to hit that blind jump with the throttle on, unaware that the jump was at an angle. My buddies were all right there and said they were scared shitless!

if you go to the youtube link there are a few other videos of it. One of the drivers jumped the step up Woohoo

Yeah, that was a bad idea. I'd have needed a shorts change.

What a terrible camera man. He needs to stay in there and get a good video. Nobody cares about the ground behind him or his hand. He had the opportunity to give us an awesome video to watch and he ruined it. Fail.

That is scary. I also hate when they allow part of the team to stand on the edge of the track and wave there riders on with the flag. Sometimes they are right on the edge of the track.

Who's bright idea was it to put the trucks out there anyway? What if he DID go into the crowd. Think about it.

Last year I remember 2 times things like this ended bad, one was a dragster in a parade and the other was a Monster truck demo with the crowd on the side walk.

That is par for the course, riders hitting rockstart cans on to the track , Doctors rolling mules end over end and now trucks almost taking out people on the side of the track. I wonder if this one gets a 2 hour conference call to figure out its a bad idea.

You can see my foot in the first video. Nothing like an exciting butt pucker at the race track.

You would think they would look at the jump before and see the jump is at a huge angle, could have been a lot worse!

Who was the driver that cleared the step-up? Good job on that one. But trucks with massive HP and crowds close on the side aren't a great mix.

Also .... the top guys were blitzing thru the whoop section scary fast with the crowd packed in right up next to the section. I'm glad there weren't any incidents because at that speed in the whoops a bike could fly a long way into the crowd.

I recall a young girl was seriously injured at Washougal years ago when a bike flew out of the whoops.

( Way back when, I had the throttle stick WFO on my CR500 just entering a whoop section. My friends said that after I flew off the bike ... it stayed upright into the next whoop and then launched 30 feet into the air still screaming WFO. Fortunately it didn't land on anyone. )

NASCAR fencing for whoop sections?

Even with marshalls waving to pull off the track and with a bunch of UTV's in the way, the final truck to go round got stuck on the ski jump after the big double.

I'm thinking it was Lucas Oil's idea, cuz all of the trucks were sponsored by them.

We were right there when the guy hit the step up and that was an amazing site to see up close. He was even going to go for the huge triple on the other side of the drop off, but a track official got in the way and stopped him. The track was super wide and there was plenty of room for him. At the time we couldn't see the other drivers almost go off the track though, so i'm sure that's why they shut him down.

I agree, and it was just two weeks ago that DC was posting about safety and how serious they take it and now just two races later and it could have been real ugly but I guess they see it as no harm no foul.

I am happy to see rhat I was NOT the only one who thought that was a very bad idea. Being in that VIP section when it happened my first thought was that that might have been the dumbest move I have ever seen and that buddy wasn't that far away from taking out a bunch of people.

I am glad some of you felt the same way.

Reminds me of a old saying. "why does trouble always start as fun"
