Radios are legal?

On Matthes MXDN podcast he states that helmet radios are legal in the Nats. Did not know this.
Back when the vid was posted of them working on Dungey's bike before second moto Southwick, Mike Webb said to get on the radio and tell Metcalfe to take as long as he could on parade lap. I assumed he meant to radio the mechanic, but maybe Suzuki is running radios.
Just wondering how many teams are running radios now.

No they are not legal in AMA racing at last I heard. Maybe you mis-heard something?

I relistened.
Lechien was talking about how it was nice to have a one-way radio at the 88 MXDN, and Matthes said JGR was thinking about using them this summer in the nats, and they were legal again in AMA motocross. By one-way I assume they mean the rider can hear but not talk.
And I've only had one beer...so it's not that.

I heard the same thing. Maybe DC could clarify the rule on this.

I think it would really help if used properly and at the right moments.

Well, I'm confused. Maybe I misheard Matthes, but it sounded like he said they were legal.

I remember a story from way back in the day, Jeff Ward and kawaski were tooling around with the idea of a radio at a supercross race, they were told no, so then jeff and the team taped a cookie box that looked like a radio to his helmet to mess with them. If anyone else know about this or if my version is even remotely close to what happened, feel free to correct it....that's how I remembered it though.
