Ive often wondered if there isnt an end game to Captialism. But Id never given any consideration that it was a battle between Capitalism and Democracy. That is interesting. Over my head but interesting none the less Smile

The politicians are the only ones to blame for all the crap we are in.

The politicians are the only ones to blame for all the crap we are in.
While I agree they hold a fair share of the blame it really lies on the shoulders of all of us.

When people stop electing politicians based on what their stance is on social issues or how much they like the way they talk we might be on the road to recovery.
Barring things changing from a high-school popularity contest to a government that is actually by and for the people we are fucked.

Every politician in Washington wants to cut spending.......except in their district. Bringing home the Pork is what keeps them employed.

Right now there are people whose sole reason for choosing a candidate is how they stand about gay marriage or abortion or else it is based on unrealistic soundbites in a TV commercial promising things that are never going to happen.

Politicians may be the easy target and hey I take shots too, but just remember who sends them there.

Knuck, you’re like a food critic that blames the poor quality of the food on the waitress. The secret is in where the food comes from and how it is prepared, not in how it is served.

I didn't find it very interesting at all. I found it appalling.
Most of you would be sharecroppers sans capitalism, and soon will be if the present trend continues.

Agreed, but I'll bet a 12 of your favorite brew that without capitalism, you would be quite as comfy as you are now.

I'll bet you 12 of your favorites back that capitalism, left unrestrained, would ruin itself and use up every last bit of resources until nothing was left.

That one is unquantifiable. Take my original bet.

neither one can be validated...but, I agree that capitalism is generally a better system when a reasonable amount of checks and balances are in place.

Where it really seems to struggle is in scale. The amount of money that is controlled by few has got our democracy in shit shape. That's a by-product of this system.

A better (but not realistic) system would be a capitalism under a benevolent monarchy that could kick out the cheats without being influenced by the participants in the system.

Basically, our political system should be firewalled off from influences like money and religion.

The only way to achieve that would be publicly funded elections, with very strick rules that were throughly enforced.

It would save us all money in the long run.

You can't have this argument parenthetically
While I agree with you on the fire wall deal, religion is very strong, and money is stronger. I'm not yelling you anything you don't know.

Maybe not publicly funded, but strict controls and spending limits should be in place for election fundraising.

If the candidates can't work within a set budget when they're campaigning, then they have no business getting their hands on the public purse strings.

This might be interesting if our system truly was capitalism...instead of this thing that spends an ever increasing portion of our fudged GDP on warped social programs domestic and global.
