That's what I'm talking about...a bunch of stuff I didn't know (and I didn't even know I wanted to know them. Some of those questions didn't even occure to me).

Nice article.

Be patient. In order to get the right information, I had to talk to other people, not just shoot from the hip. And there was this hurricane this weekend that screwed up travel for most of us, making things even harder to get done.

Even though I hate nerds guts sometimes.....that was a damn good article...and brought up things I had no idea about. As far as that goes ( and you may never hear me say this again Nerd! ) Thank you.

To be honest, in that other thread I wasn't hating on you personally I was venting my frustrations at the industry in general (you were just the case in point example).

The only thing I don't understand from your perspective is why you care so much what us "know nothings" think?

That's an article worth reading. I feel if you added that information with the first you'd of had an amazing article.

The first article was done with the information available at the time, but it was about what happened. And it detailed what happened.

This is about how the rules applied to what happened. It's not the same article. The point is completely different.

I don't remember where I read it. But someone in the industry sometime ago-probably not you...it might have been Ping-referred to the message boarders as "know nothings".

But really, though, why do you care so much what we think?

I enjoy the banter, and I want people to be accurate about me. What's so crazy about that?

Don't accuse me of bullshit that isn't true, and I'll need not respond.

Quote my stories accurately, and I'll be happy as pie.

It's pretty simple.

This is a world where people, if they're allowed, will (and do) make up their own realities. I'm simply engaging those people to prevent that from happening.

And even though it took a while, you'll see in the other thread I was largely able to do just that.

So you intent to go all over the internet correcting peopls misconceptions about you and/or the things you say? You do realize that there is more than one message board out there, or are you only concerned with this one? I've seen links to your articles on KTMtalk, thumpertalk, and even my local board here in Utah. Do you need to go there to to correct people and prevent THEM from making up their own realities?

you're a public figure, you post stuff on the internet for anyone to read....people are going to twist, manipulate, and otherwise misconstrue what you write. It's a reality you can neither control or prevent.

Having said that, if you enjoy the banter, I get it (I'm the same way) and appreciate your honesty about it. But to get people to be correct about you, that's an uphill battle, with boulders rolling down toward you, and the hill is made of ice, and there is a locomotive chained to your waste.

When I have the time and inclination, sure.

About the uphill battle, yeah I know, which is why my time and patience wear thin and eventually I stop again for a while.

Thanks Steve. Good info.
Usually if I don't like something, I just don't read it.
It's fun to go back and forth here, but at times things juts get out of hand and overboard.
I guess that's the way of the world today.
Keep filling that information highway, and we'll keep ............

Question,

Doesn't a bike have to start behind a gate and cross the "start line" defined by the gates? Where he started from, to the left, he avoided all gates....if the bike got there with a second to spare he could not start from there, could he?

Nerd,

This is what we are looking for!

The next "challenge" is to answer a few more that you may never be able to get straight answers to, but we hope you try!

1. What failed and why on JB's and CR's bikes the 1st moto.
2. Why did CR pull out the 2nd moto.
3. What failed on RD's bike and what did they do to fix it. (We saw Goose rip off the kill switch but didn't see one installed)

As I've said before, I like your stuff.

You've had the crap beat out of you and you responded with great info.

Please keep digging as others may be unwilling to do so.

Go man, go!

Oh yeah, 1 more thing.... What did CR say to RD in the pic?

1) The same thing on both bikes, and it was heat-related.

2) They believed at the time it was the same issue, but couldn't confirm because they hadn't pulled the bike apart yet. And they won't be talking about it anymore, although Chad may (or may not) if he wins this weekend.

3) Something electronic. They replaced parts until they replaced one that made the bike start.

To be clear, this article was in the works since Sunday, but I had to wait on the info, and fly home, etc. This isn't a response.

It's sort of amazing that it was heat related, considering the ambient temperature was much cooler than years past.

Not really. The "combustion" part of an "internal combustion engine" means "fire" and fire is hot.

Smile

The Honda guys didn't know what led to the overheating yet, but they did say that it's possible the increased loads on the engine due to the deep, wet soil made it run hotter, and of course filling the radiators with wet sand didn't help it keep cool very well, either.

But the "heat-related" means the heat came from inside the engine, not outside. It's like running a fever as opposed to getting heat-stroke.

My guess would be the mud in the radiator theory. In my experience wet sand takes less HP than dry sand to pull through.

Sand tracks were my worst fear as far as blowing up my 4-stroke when I had one, that and ruining my clutch.

I think in dry sand the wheels spin up more, but in the wet stuff it digs in more, and that's what "loads" the engine. Higher loads mean higher temperatures.

That, plus the radiator thing...

Engines. That's almost always what they do in the four-stroke age. Engines are built at the shop in California and shipped with the team to the race. They rarely "fix" a broken engine at the races. They check it out, then pack it up and send it back for further analysis and rebuilding.

hmmm....that's interesting. You would think the opposite, since the motor is able to make the bike move forward at a faster rate through wet sand.

I'm not disputing it, it just seems odd....
