To be honest I'm not even sure why that question was asked. What else would he be doing? Watch the mechanics posted around the track - they all wave towels. Mechanics on pit row do the same.

I was at Steel City in 97 when McGrath was riding a Suzy….I think he was in second place in the second moto, he was slowing down and got passed by Mike Craig, Wyatt Seals was pissed and wrote “Mike Craig?” on the pit board for him to see the next time he came around the mechanics area….funny stuff right there.

Mechanics write interesting stuff all the time, some inspiring, some not….nothing new.
