Seems like the number system needs a little work then. Sorry to bring this up. John Dowd #16, Mike Brown #3. get the fuck out of town.

you know if you can qualify for a main, get the necessary points to retain your number then more power too you. Dowd is a legend and i hope he is #16 until he decides to hang up his helmet

Yeah, it appears like Dowd needs a lower number based on how many young stallions he kicked the stuffing out of today.

1 point rule, kinda wimpy.
25 point rule, if they score enough points to keep it, they're still badass.

Geez get over it .... Apparently they are still fast enough to retain it & probably have a lot more going on family wise or whatever and maybe they don't have enough support or free time to race even outdoors full time. Still bad asses though and earned enough points in a few races than most privateers do in an entire series

They changed the rule from 1 point to 25 just to be able to take his number. Didn't work out to good for them though did it?

They're both legends, yes... but it's kinda lame that two very low numbers can't be used by anyone else because someone wants to run them twice a year.

They changed it from how you placed the year before to what it is today so the average fan could remember and keep
track of their favorite rider so that when he went to wal mart and bought the action figure he knew which one to get
and the rider got the royalty. Something like that. Pastrana made more money than most on 199. What's the problem?

Lame? I don't think so.

I think it's cool that the old guys come out for a couple of one off races and show that they can still run with the kids for a day.

What I'm saying is they can do that with or without their number - it doesn't change anything. But to have a low digit number (like 3) unavailable for current champs (ie: Wilson after two more races), because someone wants to moonlight it every now and again is a bit lame in my opinion.

You are, however, perfectly entitled to disagree. Everybody has their own opinion.

If an older pro can go out and score enough points to retain his number per the rules the more power to him. John Dowd is one bad ass mother ######.

Dowd and brown would be at every round if the support and money that dean izs supplied were available to them.

The fact that they raised it to 25 is what made both of them stop and say ok.....let's see.

Both have had those numbers for 10+ seasons and have the skill to be competitive on the limited schedule, why should they lose their availability to be recognized and be banished to an anonymous number?

They earned it through years of hard work. They can do whatever the hell they want with them. They introduced the numbers for marketing reasons. When I think 3 or 16 I think of those two. Seems to have worked. It will keep working next year when Dowd shows up at the young age of 47 as well (I hope).

I agree with you, but your argument is bullshit. By your reasoning the only people that can criticize the president are former presidents.
