Seems like more than normal if you add up all the failures from Suzuki , KTM and Honda .

Yeah, but all of those Suzuki mechanicals might mean something, huh?

There's no way Dungey would be going back to Suzuki for 2012 - even though we all ready know he's on a KTM.

How does Webb explain that?

It should be interesting to hear what Goose has to say (about this season & Suzuki) when he leaves Suzuki for KTM with Dungey. Wink

Why is that?
Him & Rodger have worked closely for years....and I assume Rodger would think of him as an asset to their race team.

I am specifically surprised at Team Honda. KW had a lot of DNFs in the beginning of the year. They had three today.

Suzuki had a gas issue and something weird today.

I think Dungey would have a say it . The way it been going he may want a fresh start with all the bike problems he had this year . I do think it would be in Dungeys best interest to keep him when making the switch to KTM .

yeah and it will be interesting to see what the perception is regarding Goose and the mechanical issues this year from the people on the inside. Maybe those things were out of his control, who knows.

Goose is quickly ruining his "best mechanic of all time" reputation. The derailed chain is supercross maybe wasn't his fault but the fuel thing at Texas and this garbage today has to fall on the mechainc. It's also cost Dungey a ton of points.

This generation of Honda is very delicate, it is designed to be right at the limit for an MTBF of 40 minutes. The engine, wheels, rear shock and front forks, front and rear calipers and rotors are replaced after each moto. Sometimes the mean is greater than the race length, sometimes shorter. They visually do look very nice.

What in the heck are you talking about?

The bike was running fine under the tent and then just quit....
Faulty part/bug in the ignition.....
Goose busted ass to get him out there as soon as he could,in fact they had a handful of guys on it.
Was just bad timing....when the problem occured.

As for Texas...
Mechanics cannot control bubbling/boiling fuel, nor the temperature outside....
Webb,Suzuki's former offroad racing Manager should have been all over that issue looking for a resolution to the problem before it happened just like the other Team managers......not Dungeys wrench.

Just out of curiosity, what exactly do the mechanics do other than put the bike together and wash it? Doesn't each team have a motor and suspension guy that touches the internals?

Here is a little write up on Goose back when he worked with RC.

Good read, thanks for the link. Doesn't really answer my question though. I'd like to know if these guys actually rebuild the engines and such. Being a mechanic was probably much different 10 years ago than it is now. I think goose gets too much credit and too much blame at the same time.

It can come as no surprise that DNF's were common today, with the combination of a deep sand track plus the amount of water the track was holding. The bikes were running super hot with the sand on the radiators plus the engine working overtime in the conditions. as evident with the amount of steam coming from the radiator overflow pipe.
Plus throw in water getting into the plugs on the ECU, TPS, even the kill switch etc, there are heaps of variables in these conditions!
Not having a go at MXR, just saying what I know! Great ride by Metty!!!!

Add up all Goose's race wins and titles against his bikes having a DNF, pretty sure he is waaaaaaay in frt!!!

You are not really gonna get a simple direct answer.
Each mechanic does different stuff....
Goose seems to wear many hats and knows his bikes & riders inside & out....and I'm sure he has built a few motors in his time. From a close personal relationship with his riders to the bike he builds,to motivating his riders.
He prolly also has a huge data base of knowledge in his head regarding settings & prep for each track, gate choices, weather conditions etc... the list goes on & on.

It is sorta like asking what a rider does to get around the track fast other then twist the throttle and hold on.....
All mechanics have different routines as do riders ...on race days and throughout the week.
He also has to be able to troubleshoot problems swiftly etc...

Suzuki isn't having Mechanic problems, they are having lack of funds and Management problems.

Explain how lack of funds contributed to today's fiasco, please.

Perhaps bad quality control at the factory in Japan.

He sure seemed to know what direction they needed to go in,didn't he. Smile
With them not wanting to negotiate with him....I wonder how many other key players on Suzuki's payroll in Japan moved on also. Wink

While every other OEM send their motors back to the shop to have them inspected and rebuilt, this year Suzuki has been rebuilding them at the track with not always new parts.

Its just not Decoster who left that hurt the team, Ian Harris and a few others as well. That team is a shell of what it was 2 years ago.

Yeah,I'm sure that is who he is talking about.
Alby's old mechanic....from SA.
Ian was also a really good (parts) fabricator...from what I heard & read about him.
The title he holds at KTM now is Technical Director.
