I'm looking into purchasing a helmet cam, I'm still a beginner rider but I enjoy making videos and editing them so it will be fun, and i can also watch myself doing a lap at my local track and figure out ways to improve. I dont like the GoPro because in my opinion it makes everything look smaller (ruts look smaller, jumps look less steep and smaller) I was looking at the contour hd and it looks pretty good. I'd like to spend no more then 200, whats your opinion?

you can get gopro HD cameras now, and then when filming film it in something like 720p, the quality should be very good and they are pretty safe in the casings they come in Smile

go pro is working on a 3D set up where they run two cameras together. this if from the tucker rocky rep at my old shop i worked for just not sure when or if they will release this set up. i think the only thing the public would need is a 3D tv set up.

GoPro definitely, I bought one a couple of months ago and the filming quality is suburb for such a small cam. It has 5 options, WVGA, 720P @ 30fps, 720P @ 60fps, 960P @ 30fps (fisheye) and 1080P @ 30fps.

Video below is shot in 1080P.

Actually the GoPro 3D set up is already available. You need to buy two of the HD cams and the housing to do it. The GoPro HD film quality seems good. We picked one up at Spring Creek, but haven't gotten to try it out yet. You can buy GoPros online, or Best Buy also stocks them in store.

I just got a Contour HD last week and I like it. It's currently selling for $139 on Amazon. Much better deal than the GoPro hero for $300.

my buddy used the new GoPro HD on a mic boom @ the Gopher Dunes National up here in Canada,
this whole set-up was courtesy of Go pro and the footage was good enough to be used on the Monster TV coverage.

Because they have a stranglehold on the sport here contractually. That doesn't really invite innovation (or someone to hurry up and get a wireless helmet cam built for the broadcast). We're waiting on them unfortunately. I want to see a 30 min raw video of a friggin moto and they won't allow it. Just one lap glimpses here and there to their "selected" riders.

Just my opinion.

They've also made non-contracted riders pull their helmet cams off on the line this season. I've got a GoPro Hero and it does a great job though. The quality is excellent and the sound isn't terrible considering. Really there's nothing you're going to do for the perspective problems a camera causes versus your eyes. No matter how low you mount the cam jumps will always look small, ruts and berms will look like nothing. The chest cams do the best job but a majority of the time all you see is the crossbar pad and triple clamps.

You guys really like those helmet cameras. I can't figure out why. They also look like shit and imagine a lot of people watching them can't watch them for more than a minute before getting nauseas.

Are you that old guy that complains about technology and gets motion sick from watching your kids play video games?

Yes that's Herlings, couldn't hold him off hahaha. It's the only hardpack track in the netherlands, so he trains here on a regular base.

I use a contour HD at enduros and it seems to produce decent video. I set it to 720p at 60fps and lose some quality on the transfer to youtube. I probably would have went with a gopro if I raced MX or even GNCC regularly, but the form factor of the Contour seemed to work better for the woods.

Then you're just a downer for the hell of it then huh? Gotcha. Always fun to come into a thread about something you don't even care about and let the world know it. We're all better for knowing you don't like what this topic is about. Love the asshole comment too, always the first sign of a winner.
