Hey guys, I currently am living in Canada and am planning on moving down south so I can ride/train throughout the winter (october-april). I have two options I can do and need some of your help with some questions..

Option 1:
My job has shops in Odessa Texas, Houston Texas, and Oklahoma city Oklahoma. I can transfer to one of these shops, but I need to know if there are any decent tracks close to them. I would like to practice every weekend and hopefully some weekdays as well..if these cities are not close to any tracks than it would be useless for me as the whole reason I am moving is to ride..so in that case I would use the second option.

Option 2:
Get a different job somewhere else, could be anywhere in the states. In this case I would need some advice from you guys on some good tracks that are open throughout the winter for practice, and then try my best to find some work close to that track so I can pay the bills. I could care less what kind of job I get (construction, oifield labourer, whatever) as long as I make enough money to scrape by and pay the bills and ride.

So if anyone could give me some direction here that would be a HUGE help and would really mean alot to me! Thanks

Oklahoma City would be the best out of those three choices. Oklahoma has a very strong State motocross series with several fast guys to ride with and a ton of good tracks to ride. Good luck, have fun and if you need anything in Oklahoma, let me know and I'll help if I can.

Houston is very strong as well. Plus, your goal is train to through the winter. You can do that in Houston.

OKC, not so much. You'll wish you were further south come January.

Houston is the best place for winter training out of those 3, Oklahoma weather can suck in in the winter compared to Houston.

Option 3, move to SoCal(Corona). You'll barely be able to afford it, but Corona is THE hub of moto. So you will quickly find out if you got the speed or not, plenty of tracks and plenty of local racing, where if you got skills, you can make some good dough and not have to work.

Thanks for replies guys. I would consider cali but is there even any jobs that would pay for living/racing without schooling? (I only have grade 12 for now). Other than that it would be houston or oklahoma city I suppose, do they have some tracks close to them though that are open for practice alot?

If you are fast enough, you won't need to work. You could race every weekend and make enough money, plus contingency to maintain your ride. Rent a room from someone, get a small truck and make some friends. You might be able to pull a grand a week racing Sat-Sun, plus doing a good series and plaicng in an overall. Check the payout of GFI series, CRC stuff and big local events.

Dude, Oklahoma sucks! Thats what keeps Texass from sliding out into the gulf. hehe, just kidding! But, it does get really cold in OK, City and down there in Houston you ride pretty much year round. Plus it's humid, really good for training. Ever heard of 3 Palms?

forgot...Odessa is as far away from MX as you could imagine being. Don't go there.

The Cali thing is probably true, but the $ are insane. Houston is probably more expensive than OKC, but definitely get more moto in. Plus, if you can take long weekends, you can travel to a variety of tracks pretty easily.

DFW area has a ton of tracks, you got the TX Nationals track (getting better all the time!) and Oklahoma is not out of range on a long weekend.

eurohero - I won`t be fast enough right now to win pro races down there, which is the reason why I`m going, to get faster. You guys are much faster there than here..but that is nice to know its possible to make good money from racing once I get to that level. Thanks! mt798 - I have heard of 3 palms alot on message boards here and there, never seen the place but it must be real nice if I`ve heard of it this much..have you rode it? Ok well Texas is looking like it`s probably the place to go. My dad is american so its very easy for me to get dual citizenship (which would allow me to work in the states). Also I like that it is humid in Texas which would help with the training thing. Now, is anyone in Texas looking for a roommate? haha

Come to Houston:

We have 3 or 4 Ex- National & current pro's that live here & train. Some also put on schools for us slow guy's

Lots of fast guys to race & practice with. each track is very different from each other as to the layout & type of dirt.

Houston is a good base for MX. There is a huge MX complex under construction near Beaumont (70 miles east) which will be nice. Houston has Three Palms which has several tracks to choose from, also the historic old Rio Bravo which is under new ownership(hope that goes well, what a cool track). Head three hours west to San Antonio and you have Cycle Ranch, it's huge and also a great outdoors track and facility. Lake Whitney is also three hours (3.5?) between Waco and Ft. Worth in Hillsboro. Go north for Swan MX , Freestone or Oak Hill. There are others, but these are all choice tracks under 4 hours away from Houston. Plus the heat will do wonders for your training!!

Depends on where in Texas you are for humidity. Houston is humid, San Antonio is not. Odessa is just hot as hell. If you go there, buy a paddle tire. Houston is probaby your best bet cause Dallas and San Antonio are reasonable drives to race. Alot of Pros live around Houston and Dallas. Construction in Texas? I hope you are wiling to work for cheap. You'll be competing with illegals.
