It is mind boggling the amount of stuff that goes on behind the scenes to make this event happen.
Anybody that wants to give DC grief about anything should come walk a mile (or 100) in his halebale toting, tear off picking up, track roaming shoes. Hats off also to Mark Winegar, Dean (last name escapes me right now), and Jeff Russell.
I thought the first turn was so much better. Sure there were some crashes and pileups, but nothing like some of the cart wheeling carnage that has happened in the past.
The tunnel jump was interesting and necessary. It made access for emergency personel and workers so much easier and safer. It was a challenging obstacle that some riders pushed the limits on and paid the price, but no more than the whoop/ turn section that was there for so many years.
Racing was unbelieveable.
Both clesses of Supermini were great.
Jordon Smith is the most underratted rider in the sport. He has the Speed and proved that this week.
Wow, did they dodge a bullet with the rain. Only 3/10ths of an inch the entire week.
The lightening show Wednesday night was certainly impressive and much scarier than the rain they got just down the road.
Big threat of rain right as the four 50cc classes were getting ready for their final moto, but never more than a light mist. It actually helped cool it down. Man it sure was hot out there most of the time. 115 degree heat index one day.
DC, I don't agree that the 85 beginner classes were a "bad" idea. Unfortunately it is a sign of the times. Participation 4 years ago would have been unbelieveable.
I like the idea of a 125 two stroke class, but feel that if it isn't planned carefully it is just going to turn into another class that riders will use to add to their list of titles.
What would keep (just as examples) Webb, Smith, Baker, and even AC from running a B/C class and then turning pro right after LL's?
The more experienced riders already have plenty of "B" class options, plus schoolboy and collegeboy.
I think if you are really wanting to offer what would be entry level class at LL's then it should be a "C" class, no factory support, and give the 16+ year olds who aren't being homeschooled and living at a training facility a chance to qualify on the more affordable bikes. Use the same criteria as the other C classes to keep fast minibike riders from cherry picking.
I also think laptimes of the Shaft and multi speed classes should be studied to look at merging those two classes into a single class. They certainly looked comparable on the track as far as speed and I wouldn't think that the weight of the different machines would be a concern since they are already out there on the track at the same time.
I do hope that you offer full gate options for the 50+ class, if not next year than by 2014 when I plan to end my retirement and try to qualify.
In closing, what a great event!!!!
