1969 Sachs 125 Transmission Help

My dad just gave me a 69' Sachs 125. It's in great shape but the transmision needs work. It's been stored for about 35 years and hasn't seen the sun since it was put away. Does anyone know who works on these? I've tried Google but nothing turns up.

http://www.pentonusa.org is the website for the Penton Owners Group or POG. Penton used Sachs engines in the 125's back then so someone there surely will be able to help. If I'm correct it is an 11 speed gearbox? Five forward gears, five neutrals and if the timing is off an occasional reverse :D . Just kidding, don't use that line over there, you'll get thrown out for sure! See if you can dig up any photos of Tom Benolkin on a Penton 125 if you want to see how fast one of those motors can really go.

Thank you for the link and looks like a great place to start. I rode the way back when and got stuck on a little hill and started rolling backwards and somehow it started running backwards. It was so long ago I don't remeber how it happened but it was really cool. My friends thought it was the funniest thing they ever saw. My only memory of riding that bike.

Before you start ripping it apart there is something you should know about Sachs engines ....

They really do have 5 neutrals ... 1 - n - 2 - n - 3 - n - 4 - n - 5 - n - 6 ... you should worry when you find one below 1st or above 6th.

Thanks for the heads up. Right now it's all neutral and no gears when the engine is running. Strange thing is when the engine is not running it can go in and out of gear and sometimes a real pain to try and find neutral especially when trying to move the bike around. Start it up and can't find a gear!? Want to push the bike somewhere? Good luck trying to find neutral. These were known to have problems so someone out there must have some sort fix for this.

Right now it is all neutrals when the engine is running. When the egine is off it is always in gear and once in awhile will find neautral.

Second place was first loser :D:D Honestly I have no clue. Was it a Mettco Penton rider with a blue Bell helmet?

you need a KOBA shift kit. oh, and a crystal ball as KOBA hasn't been around for 30-35 yrs. KOBA is steve KOlseth and walt BAird. KO BA. steve worked at a machine shop in gardena making, get this, memory disc's for computers. steve and walt came up with the KOBA shift kit. then steve moved to his own shop across the field (to the west) from FMF on el presedente in harbor city.

I think the trans in my rickman zundaps is the same way,when shifting you have to move the shifter about 5 inches,and pull the clutch all the way in . or you will find a nuetral between every gear.

When you split the cases, be ready for about a zillion loose ball bearings to drop out .

Instal the 2015 version of the of the KOBA kit and the wish for the best.. I had a sweet 1974 Penton that I won the 125 expert class at Steambot first year, stupid thing ran strong upshifted fine...then ghost rode on the downhill every lap on the downshift in neutral . I had an Elsinore ready to go the next year that's no lie.I still like that Penton and would like to purchase it back again, but it was then sold to the UK
