I've been wroking on/helping Austin Howell and his family with this years "program" (Getting to the Nationals)...all on their own, on the road, in a Box Van...OLD-SCHOOL!

Yesterday, I get a call, it's James Howell...Austin's dad..."Yeah, the darn van broke down. We're at a gas station about 2 miles from the track. I think I've got it figured out. We'll have the parts in the morning...I hope!"

They'd finished practicing for the day; but, Thursday wasn't looking good and my "Team" was still stranded. Huh, what could I do to help out...?

I'm in Redding. CA and they're in Mt. Morris, PA.

Well, I do have a friend that works at MX Sports and he should be around; so, I'll see if maybe he could jus' check on them and make sure everythings O.K. ...hell...he's gotta be damn busy...screw it...I've gotta call him 'cause I'm getting too damn worried...

So, I text him...didn't hear anything back, last-nite; so, I went to bed and hoped it would all get sorted out early, today.

I get up and check my phone: My friend had replied...

"I went and met James at 8 am. He was waiting on parts. They are all good now...I am going to let him use my truck if he needs to...we're going to dinner later..."

I called James: "You're not going to believe who came and checked on us and offered us his truck..." Sounding very happy...

Yup, that's my friend. He has that affect on people. He's jus' a complete moto-nerd like the rest of us and he always wants to help out.

His dad would be so damn proud of him...

Cool Story, I'll never forget when I saw your friend walking around Loretta's after the last moto of the day picking up tearoffs one by one, after he was outside working the entire day in the bazillion degree heat. Much respect for your friend!

I will always remember your friend as a guy who drove a couple of hours from his home to come to the funeral of my friend Ray Lang and dedicated an award at LL's in Rays name!! The moto head stories of your friend are endless!!! Class ACT!!

Actually, whenever I've approached DC or his folks to help any of the privateers...it jus' get's handled.

That's what's so hilarious about all this "Rich Guys ruinin' our sport" conspiracy crap.

Simply "Classic".

can your friend help a true privateer get his AMA Pro-License? Or are his hands tied because its the AMA that handles the apps?

cool story manny.

on mt i used to stir up shit back in the day saying the west coasters are faster and better than the east coasters and racerx was biased and shit towards the east coast racers.

i get home from work and my wife says this complete moto-nerd called and wants to talk to you. i said no fucking way and she said yes fucking way...here's his number.

so i called and man this complete moto-nerd defended his mag and wanted my input and really gave a shit what people thought of his magazine.

i was impressed and embarrassed and a little star struck...we have been friends since that day and i was even asked to write up a couple stories for the mag (remember the attack mx deal manny? Smile ) and shit like that...i must say this guy was real and gave a shit and i liked him a lot being a fellow mxer freek.

rock on complete moto-nerd.....Smile

Your "friend" is also a good tipper. I was behind him and a few former factory riders in the beer line at the Daytona flat track races in 09. Your "friend" gave the poor beer lady a nice tip after the rest of his entourage stiffed her.
