So I'm leaving to the East Coast in a few weeks, and want to know if you guys have any travel tips? I just found out about rolling up clothes to save space, so I'm still new at this. My girlfriend had me read a book by maria menounos, which has a bunch of nice tips that I'm using, but want to know what do you do to make traveling easier?

Yes, rolling clothes saves a lot of space. You can also put clothes in ziplocs, squeeze out the air and fit more.
Between a medium duffle and a backpack, you can do carry on of everything.
Once you get past security, buy a large water and some snacks, the on board snacks are a rip off and usually suck

I always sit in an aisle seat near the front ( stretch out the legs and get off quick )

I always ask for an upgrade ( and once got up to 1st class on the way back here from home ).

Don't take towels - hotels always have 'em and they take up heaps of space.

Get a bag with wheels.

If you are going international ALWAYS check out the immigration dudes before comitting to a line.

If at all possible try to use some form of motorized transportation. If you plan on walking I would leave early, like now maybe.

Go to the travel section in the shampoo and toothpaste isle at walmart. They have some nice travel kits, some full of products and some that are empty. Point being, you can buy a clear hard plastic sipper bag with airline approved items in airline approved sizes. Complete with razor, shaving cream, toothpaste, toothbrush, comb and shampoo. Rules change and I don't always have time to keep up with such but I have never had any trouble with having them in a carry on. But I do leave them unopened and even leave the store tags even shelf marketing tags on them, just as they came off the shelf and into your buggy. If you don't want to buy one that is full of items, they have several items you can mix and match that are all airline approved. Quality stuff too. I started using Axe Shampoo because I bought it in a travel bag once and really liked it. I also have purchased the empty bag and used it for any medicine ect. that I would be taking. They are fast, easy, and inexpensive, $8 and under for a complete kit with nice stuff in it and $2 for just an empty bag.

Tip 2. It is ok to be the last guy off the plane but don't be the last guy on. You don't want to be in a situation where there is no where to put your carry one and unless you have a really proactive stewardess, you will be forced to check it in. I seen it quit a few times. Domestic flight you might be fine, but just don't get in that situation and you will be better off.

Thanks for the help! My gf had read in the same book that it's best to tag your luggage with your phone number instead of your address. If your bag gets lost, someone can get in touch with you. And I'm planning on taking a plastic bag to put dirty clothes in, which will make unpacking easier.

Are you checking in luggage? if so keep a back back with a pair of socks, underwear, shorts and a t-shirt, also keep your toothbrush & paste in the back pack. Keep anything that can leak in a plastic zip-lock bag. The backpack is just in case they lose your luggage. I went to Seattle SX to work a few years ago, had to wear the same clothes for 3 days, they found my luggage when I came home lol Always bring travel size stuff, if it's in your back pack, anything too big they take away and throw it away. Don't bring anything of value, unless you keep it on yourself, TSA steals !!

X2!!!

Always carry on a spare change of clothes and essential toiletries in your carry on. I too have fallen victim to lost luggage and not had any spares in my carry on, in Germany, in winter. All I had to wear was what I wore onto the plane, a pair of shorts and a Tshirt.

I also recommend, if checking luggage, that you place in the bag a copy of your flight itinerary and the address of where you will be staying, in the event it gets lost. This way, they know where you are going, on what flight, where you're staying and when you're coming back. Lay this flat on top, so when the bag is opened all this info is readily available.

oh and it you travel outside of the US?? Always have a passport cover, this is for any age person, I always talk the least amount in the airport, don't want to be picked out for being American. I use a red cover I got in Switzerland for my American passport.

Opt out of the full body scan and moan loudly when you're getting patted down by TSA.

Make it as uncomfortable for them as it is for you.

Wear sandals and no belt to the airport. It's just easier.

I am trying my best to get everything to fit in a carry-on bag. Hopefully things fit.

If you have layover(s), take a small power strip with you if you plan on using iPod, laptop etc. It never fails, when you need to plug your device in the most, all the power outlets are always taken. This way, you can share one outlet with several people.

I carry one of those little cubes that have three plugs on it

Nice and small, takes up very little space, three outlets out of one
