The riders and teams on the AMA circuit wanted a shorter weekend and live television. They got it, and the series was 100% improved for them. The hardcore, weekend fans -- the very important fans -- lost a day of live practice and some qualifying (the top ten didn't have to go and guys like Stewart and Windham quit showing up). But they now get to see every other race they don't attend on live TV, free Internet, and the best riders and the teams in the sport participate. That was the tradeoff that we had to make, just as AMA Supercross did when they got rid of the long Friday practice sessions. Not everyone was happy, but almost all of the riders and teams were very happy.

The amount of people watching practice and qualifying at both Valkenswaard and Glen Helen could not have been worth the expense of all that travel and set up for the teams, in my personal opinion. Over the course of three months in a summer of AMA Motocross, that's two extra weeks on the road for everyone. The teams told us it was not worth it to them anymore.

When we changed, the TV package exploded, and now we're live all over the world.... And the fans get a full day of racing on Saturdays that begins at 8:30 and ends at close to 6. That was also part of the tradeoff, and yet still not everyone is happy.

By the way, who is Dana White?

There where 5000-7000 people at Sunday - Qualification day but yeah on Monday - Raceday you got 20000-30000 people...
But I like qualification day... Less people you can cruse true the paddock without all those folks.

PS: Please don't put Glen Helen and Valkenswaard at the same level... I see pix from the track and need to take my magnifying glass to find fans. Valkenswaard is the best visited race of the season.

Look at a map, that is a 12 hour drive at $4.25 a gallon. Save it to support the American series at Hangtown and Pala.

Fair play, Matti, Valkenswaar has many more times the people on Sunday (Easter) for qualifying, but it was still just a lot of riding and racing for gate pick the next day.... With our season being 30 weekends long, the riders and teams were burning out big time before SX and MX Sports each shortened our programs by a day. Maybe what we need is more support races on Friday, like Futures' Cup races, two-stroke chalenge, WMX opening moto, Vet race.... It's all on the table, but the rank-and-file riders are 100% behind the one-day format.
