Anyone camped / ridden there ? We’re kind of Ocotillo-ed out. Too many idiots in sxs’s and we have young kids just starting. The in-laws want to try Plaster City for a change up. Any yays or nays or hints / tips on where to camp and ride there ? It seems kind of flat from the road but I guess ocotillo wells does too. I have no idea what to expect. Thoughts on the place ?
Unfortunately I don’t think you’ll be able to avoid that anywhere. Try to stick to off weekends or middle of the week if you can
We always (well try) to go the weekend before or after a big weekend. I love Ocotillo Wells, we've been going there since 1978, but it's kind of played out. There's not much mystery left out there for us, and we're absolutely over the party / yahoo scene. Especially now since we have grandkids on PW's and stacycs running around camp. I've been googling Plaster City and to be honest it looks boring as fuck lol. Our inlaw's from San Diego are the tour guides for this one, they've been there before ("years ago") We'll see how it goes, most of the description's say it's basically flat and where guys test trophy trucks. Great right ? 😛 I'll take a few pics and let you know how it is. Hoping there some little hills to camp around where we don't see city lights or any other campers.... wishful thinking ? lol
Have you tried north out by Barstow at all? Afton canyon, Rasor Rd, or Stoddard Valley. I haven’t been since I was a kid but might be worth checking out!
We've been out that way a few times, by the old VMC and Bell Mountain. Been out Trona road to Charlies Place (Wagon Wheel OHV area) Spangler hills area. Those places are not too bad but kind of a hike for us from San Clemente. We still need to check out Cuddeback and Jawbone canyon / Dove springs areas too. But that's got to be a 3-4 night minimum trip or it's not worth the effort (for the distance). We've done Calico Ghost town area which has some cool stuff. Superstition was kind of blaaahhh unless you like sand dunes, we're on bikes so a little bit of sand dunes goes a long way, maybe we didn't go to the right spot I don't know LOL. I like Big Bear and Kennedy Meadows when the snow melts. You're right about during the week for Ocotillo Wells. We did that before Thanksgiving. Left on Sunday came home Wednesday. But next weekend the kids and inlaws want to try someplace different so we shall see. Our camp we like off of Poleline is 125 miles from my driveway so OW is the quickest and easiest.

Pretty spot on - lots of trophy truck test loops with nasty holes and huge ruts, mostly flat, lots of rocks. We're going out this weekend, nice thing is it's usually not as crowded as Ocotillo Wells.
Got out here today and did some exploring. Kind of funny we came out here to try to avoid crowds, so we get all set up and head out of camp to go exploring and discovered course markers about 1/4 mile or so from where we camped, turns out there’s a race out here this weekend lol. Some of the people I’m with have never been to a desert race so it should be fun to go find a spot and watch for awhile. There’s no one out here tonight, no moon and not much “light pollution” So far so good !

Shoot, I didn’t even put it together until now. My buddy’s kid is racing out there tomorrow. It’s a district 38? race.
Yup, D38
Drove over to Superstition to watch the Blue Angels practice, tonight’s sunset was a good one. 👆
