Many cycling journalists have proclaimed Pogacar as perhaps the greatest cyclist in history. And at his current win rate, it certainly makes for a strong case, as he is only 25 with many years ahead.
However, the standard bearer is, of course, Eddy Merckx, with 5 TdF and other grand tour victories.
So, is it too early to place Tadej at the top of the list? If yes, who besides Eddy would rank higher?
In the tour last year Tadej came in fresh off an injury and but up an epic battle despite not having nearly the level of team help JV did.
This year's TDF will be very interesting with JV and WVA currently injured. I think Tadej has already proven himself to be stronger than his competitors, especially in the early classics this year.
With all of the knowledge of nutrition and training (and lets be honest, PED's) skewing the pro cyclist average age down, really the only thing that can stop him is another young talent..
Oops, I thought this thread was going to be about justice for uncle Bosie.
Merckx's track record speaks volumes, but Pogacar's got time on his side to build his legacy. As for others who could rank higher, names like Hinault and Indurain come to mind, but it's all subjective in the end.
I think it’s too early to make those comparisons and the cycling in the two eras will always be different. I enjoy very much watching Pogacar. He’s my favorite rider since Sagan. Pogacar riding away from a strong field in the Liege-Bastogne-Liege and win by 2 minutes is very Eddy Merckx thing to do!

I feel the same. Have Tadej wear the crown when he wins the TdF GC. And the points. And is KoM. All in the same race!
Oh, and one rider finished within 20 minutes of Eddy. Yes, he was The Cannibal!
