Just heard this on the news... Sux. Two are / were still missing? Is that still holding true?
i believe the persons still missing are presumed deceased.
shit deal. heartbreaking. end of what seems like a great 3 day trip together and wham. hard to think about
I don't get why there were there in the first place.
With guides, in the back country, after extreme avalanche warnings had been issued.
It's sad for the lost, but what the hell?
Sounds like 3 experienced guides were killed along with 6 guests. You gotta think at least the guides probably deployed their airbags but who knows, and if they did it was obviously no match for the wall of debris coming at them. They saw it coming and yelled "Avalanche". Some survived in their group and some didn't, so the details will come out eventually. Sounds like a lot of the guests were Mom's of kids attending a nearby school or academy.

A few years ago I drove HWY 82 from just south of of Leadville, CO headed back to the hotel at Glenwood Springs. In one area, you.could see where an avalanche had occurred. From the top of the mountain on the south side the trees were layed over heading down the hill. What was amazing, was how far the trees were laid over going uphill on the north side.
The power of an avalanche is amazing.
Very sad for those that were lost.
That HWY is closed for the winter for good reason.
