I think he crashes a few laps in and scores 0 points for the day. That’s my prediction.

I think we can give Sexton a pass for today's showing, no matter how much I hate to admit it. He didn't turn enough laps to really get a feel for his performance, and then he had a bad crash that ended his day early. What are the takeaways?

I feel like he never found his groove. It may have been a rock in his goggles, but he sure looked like he was uncomfortable going the pace in those first few laps. It looked to me like things were happening too fast for him and he was in danger of slipping back a few positions. Then, he took the goggles off and I wondered why he kept going without them. Then came the crash. It was weird and ugly. No matter how you slice it, I don't think we saw the real Chase Sexton today.

I'm not a fan, but I hope he is unhurt and can come back to competition soon.

Well, I just served myself a warm plate of Crow.  As a fan of the sport and all riders, Pala absolutely sucked with a Sexton going out, multiple mechanical DNF's, and then Jett/Deegan waxing the field.  Only glimmer of hope was Tomac being able to run with Jett, and maybe Shimoda/JuJu/Marchbanks can give Deegan some trouble on occasion.  If you are a fan of only one rider like Jett or Deegan you are doing jumping jacks and backflips, but I like to see good racing and more than a 1 horse race at the front.  I hope Chase isn't hurt so he can come back and give us some 3-way battles, and I hope Shimoda or someone else can show Deegan a wheel.  It's only the first race and there's a lot of golf left, so anything can happen.  Bring on the Hangtown heat.
