Purchased a used crf 50 for Pennie’s on the dollar. Set for many years. Wouldn’t run unless on the choke and ran like crap. Took the carb off and cleaned it and let it soak overnight as well. Will idle now off the choke but wants to die when given gas. Also when placed into gear it goes lunges forward and starts to idle high and go without giving it gas on choke. Won’t move off of choke.

Oem carb and 2017 year. Any suggestions?

There's a nut and screw adjustment for the clutch sounds like its not set properly.  I would check the settings on the carb and make sure they're set right.

Clean the carb again, probably had more junk plug up the ports. Once you get it running you can check the clutch engagement.

Has the mixture screw cap been removed? Also, the emulsifier tube under the main jet should be cleaned as well.

If not, then it needs to be removed, along with the mixture screw itself and that passage cleaned as well. Then you'll turn the mixture screw all the way in, and back it out about 3/4 of a turn.

Then set the idle. Odds are it's idling too high and engaging the clutch, that's why it dies when put in gear.

Thanks for the direction. The mixture cap has not been removed. I guess I will take the carb off again and remove the cap as that was the only thing not cleaned with the carb. Probably should just buy a rebuild kit. Gaskets looked fine though
