I grew up about 15 min from Hangtown. Haven’t lived there since 07 and caught up with a friend who told me that Sacramento Raceway had closed down. Couldn’t believe it, I mean, I could with how expanded that whole area is with housing, Just sad to see it gone.
Flagami wondering about the whole Prairie city area. I know its pretty far out there in Folsom (?) Has there been much development going on out there that could threaten Prairie city with selling? Or is it still just hills/fields as far as the eye can see the whole drive to Hangtown?
Last time I went was in 2017 but didn’t pay attention at the time. Jw. Thanks
Massive development going on around there but it's a state park so it's not going anywhere.
I didn’t even know it was a state park. How does that work though, say they just surround the entire place with endless neighborhoods, with the dust and noise complaints, how will that work in the future?
Your mind will be blown. They’ve widened roads and added stop light's where stop signs once were. Developments are getting closer and closer but nothing so close to cause any issues, yet. In 5-10 years I could see it going away. It’s a state park yes, but our state loves money more than offroad.
What's up Josh. It's wayyyy different from when we grew up there. I work at the SAFE corporate building right next to hwy 50 and East Bidwell, that whole area used to be just open empty fields of dirt and dead grass. It damn near looks like a downtown area now which is what they plan on doing. East Bidwell is the major road with tons of stores/restaurants/etc. That big hill is nothing but homes now, the most expensive ones in the area. They built the Palladio area with tons of shopping/stores/movie theatres. Folsom Lake College has grown at least like 3x the size it was when I went to college there just back in 2008/09. I believe the Intel Corporate office employs the most people aside from the schools but the housing is what's really expanded immensely. Remember taking Scott Rd to the hwy 50 ramp all those huge open fields? That's now called "Folsom Ranch" packed with homes and businesses, I believe they even opened a couple schools in there. Just a few miles West on Grant Line rd used to all be open fields and is now packed with homes and every time I drive up to the office I see more and more homes built and land being prepped for more new housing.
Prairie City is all a state run OHV park, when we were kids the Hangtown track was also ran by the state but around 1998/99 is when the track became privately owned by Dave Matson who then sold it years later and it's been a privately owned track ever since but the park surrounding it is still owned by the state.
You would think being a state owned park it would last practically forever but I have a bad feeling with more and more housing being built and getting closer to the park eventually people will start to bitch and moan about the noise and dust enough to have it taken away. I process and underwrite mortgage loans and can tell you those developers are extremely aggressive in wanting to expand and make it a new downtown-ish sort of thing. With all the new developments they've expanded and added several new roads and will be pushing hard for that space. Plus we all know how much Californian's LOVE internal combustion engines puffing out exhaust fumes, making loud noises and spinning up dirt clouds (sarcasm meter maxed out) so I wouldn't be the least bit surprised if it was gone in the near future.
The Shop
Thanks for the info dude, yeah it really does sound like it’s only a matter of a time before they close it all down. I can’t believe how much that whole area has grown. God, I wanna go back and check it all out, maybe next year
Suck about the Raceway all the car shows swap meets and drag racing gone
The city of Folsom annexed the land south of HWY 50 about a decade ago, and there is an enormous development (actually 6 separate developments, totalling 11,000 units) going in along White Rock road adjacent Prairie City/Hangtown.
If you take Prairie City road to get to the track, look to your left prior to hitting the massive new intersection there, and you will see all the infrastructure going in. At the intersection (formerly stop sign) at the track entrance, there will eventually be townhomes backed up to that corner (site 11 on the map below).

Carnegie is a State Park and has had 3,000 acres that it has not been able to open to riding for 30 years due to battles with neighboring new development.
Oceano Dunes is also a state park, and is embroiled in a legal battle to remain open.
It's works really easy, you expand close to the track, people move in knowing a track is right there, then they complain about the noise, then it closes. Rinse and repeat across the country, it's great!
Makes me sick to drive out Hwy 50 now thru that area. Fvcking McMansions and Tesla's everywhere driven by bleach blondes with fake lips and t!ts. It's the worst of CA all in one spot. Glad I left 10 years ago although I sure do miss Mikuni's Sushi. Hangtown's clock is ticking, sad to say.
