Gear Racewear

That's a brand I hadn't heard of in a long while.  I had a set from them in the 80s.  Bought because it was cheap.  Quickly moved on.  Later they had some better looking stuff, and then sort of disappeared.

It looked nice. 

Owned by the same guy that owns Moto Tee’s….  John Ayers or at least he used to.  Part of the Coombs/MX Sports conglomerate.  They made gear a LONG time ago. 

John is a good dude.

Former pro MXer with a bunch of top 10 national finishes, and then pretty good finishes in cross country, including several in the ISDT.

Started up gear racewear and made good stuff. Also contracted to make gear for several other name brand companies.

Coombs/MX Sports conglomerate? geez. The dude is responsible for a lot of the improvements over the years in presentation and making our sport more professional.

He has always been very involved at what has become the GNCCs. Was at LL's from the first year on. and was a fixture in the eastern fly-over country for being involved in all aspects of off road racing. If you needed tear offs or a spark plug at the mini-os, winter ams, arena crosses in the midwest, or big amateur Motocross races in the eastern states you headed to the gear racewear trailer. most of the time John would be there helping you out. 

Somebody has to do shirts and souvenirs for the nationals. Anybody else would expect to make a profit and would be required to follow the same guidelines for using rider's pictures etc.

His company also does the banners, repeaters, and structures at the nationals. John sr was the race director for years, talking to a broad range of riders and then using that input directing track work during the brief intermissions, including updating all operators with a countdown. I believe he has since retired from that.

 Up until a couple of years ago, John jr was out there pounding stakes, but I believe he has now stepped up to that position. 

My first set of gear in the 80’s. No pun intended.
