Steel City (RIP) and High Point native. I usually go to High Point and Budd’s every year but this year I’m thinking about taking the ole lady on a road trip and going to Ironman. We plan on going to MXDN and I’ve always wanted to see the track in person so I figured why not catch the national there as well.

As a first timer, any recommendations on where to watch the race from? I’m assuming we can bring chairs, what about coolers? Is it worth the road trip for us? I know High Point and Budd’s have good spots to see most of the track from. I’ve heard different opinions on being a spectator at Ironman so any insight from people who have been there is much appreciated.

I go to Ironman and there’s on section we always sit at, it’s on the hillside near the podium (facing it) along the fence on top of the hill. You can see about 80% of the track there including Godzilla it’s super cool and chill. Do you ride at all? Because if you plan on going the track itself to ride is also super fun in my opinion.

I second this location! Yes, on the coolers. Overall not the best track for spectating but definitely fun to ride. This is a good year to go because I think attendance will be down (spectators may only want to attend once in 2025 and probably choose the MX of Nations).

I think it’s best to move around at this facility, but I really, really enjoy that area where the covered bridge goes over the circuit. On the bridge or, either side provides some spectacular action. But yeah, move about, find your spot(s).

I’m 3hrs away and have gone every year but never heard of riding it other then when they hold the pro race every year? Do they have select open rides?

We were there for LL regional and I preferred finding a spot along the fence right after going over the covered bridge. High traffic area but I could see most of the track. TBH it didn’t feel like a large area to view to me vs Unadilla or even Budds. Feel like MXDN is gonna be a zoo there for spectators.

Nope, well maybe if you have industry connections and you could get in on the industry ride days they do two times a year. Only times to ride the track is at the GNCC and Amature day

If someone were to hold an open ride practice weekend there and limited the entries to 200-250 riders per day to ensure everyone gets a good amount of riding in, would you be willing to pay $50 per day to ride plus a $10 per person per day gate fee?

Tragically, the Fly rep that put on that dealer ride day is no longer with the company.

That makes sense. I knew people have rode there before but I never seen anything about a open ride

I would. I already drive 3hrs to ride Redbud once a year. Or at least try to get there to ride. I want to say it’s like $45 for that? Although they would probably cut out the Godzilla section
