Hey Everyone, Hope you are well!

My son at the end of last season decided he wanted to do MX like a friend of his. I started him with a 06' Honda CRF70 and we went to the track probably around 8 times near the end of the season. He has done really well on the CRF70, but it basically has no power and its really not meant for the track. So I purchased an 06' KX65 for my son for Christmas. I realize that this is quite the step up from the CRF70. Does anyone have any pointers on how to get him started on the KX65 without killing himself with the power? He's going on 10years old so he is the right size for the bike. I just don't want him to get carried away because the difference between the two bikes is considerable from a performance perspective.

Any thoughts on the appropriate way to break him in? I thought what I would do was to get him a couple of lessons with a experienced trainer on the KX65 first before I unleash him on the track.

Teach him to cover the clutch with 1 finger most of the time.

The best advice my dad ever gave me when I was learning how to ride was to break your wrist, and then grab the throttle. So have the little guy break his wrist up and then grab. The biggest thing is that people panic and pull back causing the throttle to rip back and the bike to take off.
