Hey all,
I have a 2005 cr. Unfortunately one of the threads for the adjusters if completed stuffed. Can these be re welded and tapped. if not is there a way to repair them.

Cheers fellas,

Helicoil is one way to fix it.

i have the same deal on my kx swingarm. i talked to one welding shop but he wasn't interested in doing 1,because it was aluminum and two because he doesn't work on many/any bikes. i might try talking to another shop though. I would have them plug the hole then i could redrill/tap.

there are also swingarm saver kits out there for bikes like yours and mine but they aren't great in my experience.

Yeah I have seen a few but would like to repair to standard. Could you let me know how you go?

A helicoil would make it back to the original bolt and thread size.

If the adjuster is broken off it can be drilled out.

Adjuster is out but the actual thread is broken off. it isn't solid alloy inside the swing arm? So i don't believe part of it there is not alloy to drill out.

You can weld it and re-drill & tap. Because its a somewhat thin wall, having a thread insert go in and actually stay theyre doesnt sound promising to me.

How thick is this?

The factory must have thought it thick enough to tap for the adjustment bolt to go into.

Then there is plenty for the insert to hold on to.

im not in a rush cause i have another arm, but if i do i will post. mine is beyond the point of being able to use a helicoil so my only option is weld/drill/tap

I machined an aluminum insert, drilled it and tapped it, then welded the insert into the swing arm. We drilled out original holes to be bigger but replaced that with the more material, longer recessed, threaded insert.

Dont be a dummy with the next ones whenever you do fix it though. Lol antiseize the shit out of them frequently.
