New 50 Dad seeking PW 50 Tuning tips

Hello Vital,
Recently picked up a used PW50. Before yesterday, she starts, idles and revs but it seems weak. At full throttle with the rear wheel lifted off the ground, doesn't seem like she screams as strong as she should. While my son was cruising around yesterday, it died and wouldn't re-fire. I attempted to raise/enable the choke and the cable pulled right out being disconnected a few inches into the plastic cable guide/tube. So, a new choke cable and service manual to be ordered on the next dealer stop.

What is considered 'mandatory' maintenance on these things? I've read keeping a sealed air box is key. Is there a richer/leaner adjustment with the fuel injector? Air filter aside, for advise from other PW50 dads / Tony Alessi. : )

I’ve been in the same boat. Trying to dial in a neglected pw my friend lent me for my daughter..I ended up replacing the entire cable assembly and taking extra care to make sure it was adjusted properly. (Took me a few attempts which was frustrating) That and a brand new air filter not oiled too much got it running way better. Am still turning the screw to dial it in pretty much every time she rides it depending on what track/temp it is..

Make sure the RESTRAINING WASHER is removed from the exhaust/cylinder. It comes stock with it installed and will not allow the bike to rev because of the restriction it causes. Meant to compliment the throttle restriction screw

Yes-make sure that stupid little washer is out of the header, that’s item A1.

1) Install a new spark plug.
2) Run the air filter as dry as possible, like mentioned above.
3) Keep the throttle cable adjusted with not too much play.
4) Blow that motor out for all it's worth on the stand once warm. It sometimes takes 10 -20 seconds to really get hot and blow out the carbon buildup.
5) Also mentioned above, remove the restrictor washer.

Also, make sure you are running an injector oil in the tank, not premix. Premix is too thick.
