Looking to get my kid a 250f, prefers one over his 125.

Anyways, plan is to get almost used one with low hours to save money.

What brands are known for being most reliable?

What brands come sprung the lightest?

What years did each brand become electric start?

If it was 450’s, I know the answers to all this, just not to up to date on 250f’s

Like Jmaie said, the YZ seems to check all the boxes in the 250F class.

I'm racing an FC250 at the moment, and really like it. Motor seems amazing to me, air fork (which I like on the 4T) and Husky pays good contingency. KTM/Husky also has a new EFI tuner for 21.

2019 and up YZ250f is a solid choice, predictable, great power, WiFi tuning app.
Is the 2019 electric start? Is that the first year?

Yeah first year of e-start. Amazing bottom end torque for a 250F. But lacks power up top and the rev limiter is basically a brick wall. That is what they've tried to "fix" on the new 2021. The torque makes it almost to a mini 450 in that regard. You don't have to ride it in the traditional 250F manner. So the YZ is great for riders riding with lower RPMs.

The Austrian 250 makes more HP than the YZ and they are "faster" with the right rider but they have to be ridden almost like a 125, up in the RPM range. There isn't much bottom end torque.

The Honda has a similar engine character as the Austrian 250 bikes but it's slower. E-start came in 2018.

The Kawasaki got the e-start for 2021 so it would be difficult to find a low hour bike for sale right now.

Thanks, that’s exactly
What I was looking for!

My kid is a C rider at best and doesn’t ride on the pipe like a 2 stroke should be ridden. He’s raced since 5 and at 13 now just moved up to a 2020 ktm 125sx. He likes my 450 way more, so going 250f.

Probaly narrow my search to just 2019 plus yz250f. Wasn’t really considering a husky or ktm given his speed right now, we don’t need the most power.

I normally ride 2 strokes but got to ride a new Husky 250f earlier in the year. It was really easy to ride and the difference between the maps on the handlebar switch was crazy. One of the maps had way more bottom end than the other. Alternately, the 2nd map pulled longer in the upper RPMs.
