2003 rm 125 airbox/boot help

Right where the boot and Airbox meet there is a metal cage where the filter connects. two spots opposite each other there is a gap. Is this normal? I’m getting dirt into the boot, and I have a new filter and good filter seal so I can’t figure out where the dirt is coming from other than possibly those gaps

My 2001 has the same gap. I’d say it’s normal. Are you sure it in correctly? It turns and locks into grooves on both sides. The plastic cage should match the contour of the outer ring.
