yz125 cornering problem

hi everyone,

im getting some power problems with my 03 yz125 in the corners, ill go into a corner with reasonable speed but bog out when im leaving it.. ive tried this in almost every gear (expect for 1st gear but thats to slow lol). the only way im finding power is when im winding out the clutch and honestly i've already gone threw a set of clutch plates this year. can anyone tell me what i could change on my bike or how to get more speed or more power in turns... MUCH APPREICATED

If you are racing a 125 hard, you WILL be slipping the clutch coming out of corners in 2nd or more likely 3rd gear. And you will be changing the clutch probably every 2nd or 3rd race as a matter of course. Some guys change them every race, or even every moto. But our experience was every 2nd or 3rd race (and this counted usually 2-3 practice sessions during the week between the races).

Check your powervalve and make sure it is not gummed up. If it is not closing all the way you will loose bottom end power. They are bad about it if they sit very long. Is the jetting right, it should be crisp. This time of the year even in Canada you will have to lean it down for the warmer weather compared to what you were running 2 months ago. Just some thing to try, hope they help.

same thing happened to me, you probably have low compression and need to do the top end.

already did the top end. but good news i sold it for $2000 and getting my self a yz250f 2009 for $4000

Nice bike, I got one just like it, and have no complaints on how it rides. The bike does everything really well, it is not great, but just does everything really well. My last 250f before this one was a 06 CRF250, and I think the Yamaha corners better than my Honda did. The Honda seemed to want to push wide a lot, but this Yamaha seems to like any line and it will hold it.

I just put a Yamaha GYTR high compression piston, DR D pipe, and screenless air fliter cage on it. I will probably hang on to it for at least another year before I replace the thing.

Just keep a clean air filter in it, and change the oil on a regular basis and you should be fine.

thanks! do you find that the yz250f rides a bit lower to the ground? i havnt set my sag yet which i plan to tonight but it feels like its reallly low

I am 5" 8" and the bike fits me just fine, it does not sit to tall and feels real comfortable, it fits just right for me anyways.

I also have an 09 RMZ450 and that thing is just the opposite, it feels way to tall for me. I think I am going to try either having the internals of the suspension modded to lower that thing, or put a lowering link on it and raise the forks up in the clamps, or just sell it and move on to something shorter.
