I am going to buy a left over 08 Honda 450r and turn my 06 into a flattracker SM bike for next season. I can't race Moto too much any more due to my back but defintly can't stop competeing.

I already have a 19 in for the front from an old honda cx 500 for the flat track. Just need to machine a spacer. Then I will buy a set of SM wheels or just race it in the 21 inch class for SM. I will probably have the suspention lowered to Flattrack specs. I will do way more FT than SM.

what flattracks are there in colorado? The closest one to me in Az closed down a while ago, perris or williow springs seems like the closest to me in Ca. Any websites? thanks.

The top photos were taken at Tradex Convention center at the airport in Abbotsford, B.C. on an open practice day. They now run a full series there with a nice dirt section that wasn't there when I lived in B.C.

The bottom photo is from the new stomping grounds @ stratotech raceway park near Edmonton, AB. Easily one of the nicest facilities in North America for karting and a track large enough to race sportbikes on (~1 minute lap times).

The best mods for the DRZ are the FCR carb and a pipe. The airbox mods just go along with that. It really picks the bike up and makes them decently fast.

Just don't get too caught up in trying to extract a ton of power from them. I've seen guys mod the heck out of them and the platform just isn't ever going to be as competitive as a converted MX bike or a more race style pre-built bike like a husky or aprilia. You can wake it up a bunch with the right mods, but you can't change it's stripes completely. Like all forms of bike racing though. With the ride guy at the controls you can make faster bikes look silly on it. It's certainly no toy.

thanx for your input..its just a blast that DRZ..handles and brakes really well..turning is a breeze..i wish it was a 450 or 500,but for this little island its almost perfect..i got it with 3200 miles..an 07..i doubled that already in about 3 months

Just google it. You'll find a ton of reviews and explanations.

Basically it's a Keihin MX style carb that flows much better. Don't go for a big bore kit. You won't need it and it may give a slight power increase, but the heavier piston means it will rev slower and won't have the same jump off the line.

I learned from putting the big bore kit on my CRF. High RPM use isn't the way to showcase a big bore kit.
