Fuel In oil problems

Edited Date/Time 1/26/2012 4:31pm
A friend came to me today with a question.

apparently he's a lot getting fuel in his oil. His bike is a crfx450 09 model.

The only thing I could think that would cause it would be the rings??

Anyone else got any ideas.

I haven't had a look at it, and he said he's only checked the oil once and its done it

I have seen that happen when the fuel valve is left on causing the needle and seat to be over ridden or stuck open causing the fuel to run into the combustion chamber and then work its way around the rings into the lower end.

do you have to pull the carby apart to fix it? or will turning the fuel off fix the problem?

With the gas valve in the off position check to make sure that you aren't getting gas thru the valve and then make sure there isn't any debris on the needle of the needle and seat.

Does the 2009 CRF-X have a carb or FI?

The 2009 CRF 450 had this problem when it switched to fuel injection. I thought the issue was caused by the fuel pump staying pressurized after the motor shut off and the pressure would bleed off into the motor and work its way into the bottom end contaminating the oil. From all the times MXA answered the question they said Honda never came up with a solution that I remember.

for the R model, Honda put out a bulletin saying not to blip the throttle until the motor is hot, the only fix is frequent oil changes or somehow resist the urge to constantly blip the throttle (i know I can't). The X model, which is carbureted, probably has a bad needle in the carb like xnationalwrench said.
