So... After a pretty dirty swap out at Appin on saturday I think I'm gonna get rid of the Kenda rear and the Mx51 front which came on my bike.

Can't say I've ever been a fan of the 51 front, kinda always feels vague?

I do like the 403/404s on my Bros RMZ... Very positive and consistent feel but am interested in anyone who rides at Appin/Kembla/Clarence/Bathurst/Louee/Fairlight as to what they are running.

Anyone on 31 front and 51 rear? Pirelli?

Cheers!

What's the soil like? In Michigan it's sandy with some black dirt that is loose to loamy, but still on the sandy side. I too think the 51 feels vague when the ground gets loose, so I usually run 31 up front and a 51 in back. That works just about everywhere except in super hard pack.

It's basically hardpack shiny shit in the afternoon and good tacky clay in the morning... Which I understand isn't ideal for anything...

My mate is on the 31 front 51 rear but thinkin I might try the bridgestones... Still gun shy on pirellis as my last enduro bike had those but they were dot tyres...

Try the 71 front, I've never used it but I've heard good things about it on clay and super tacky dirt

hmmm... I get it's their hardpack tyre but you know what, I've struggled to find anyone who has actually tried it to get a real review...

Not riding those tracks but I have always run Bridgestones but my ktm came with dunlops 51's which are awesome.

Probably stick with the Bridgestones cause I am racist. (Dunlops made in indo)

Hey Crush, i've always noticed that you are from Oz, but didn't realise that we rode the same tracks Appin, Kembla etc. I'm out there a fair bit so we'll have to catch up. As far as front tyres go, i hated the MX51 too and usually ripped the side knobs off as soon as it gets hard pack. I pretty much run the MX71 all the time and it works and lasts pretty well. It might not be the best in the sloppy stuff but like you said Appin is hardpack by lunchtime. I'd try the MX71, just my two cents worth.

Cheers boys. DDMX18 good to hear you're there and have ridden a 71.

I'm probably the tallest dude at the track on a 13 350sxf - TLD or Shift gear. Won't be a while tho cause like i said, I hit my head pretty good last weekend. Say hi if you see me tho, would be cool to see your two Yammies in person too dude, things are trick!

689 - I can't stand the 51 front, does it work for you? I feel like it's taking me for a walk all the time. Even at my pace hahaha...

Get a set of Pirelli Mid Soft 32 they will work on everything if you want a more hardpack rear the 554 is really good.
Make sure you get the 120/80x19 rear, there are 2 front sizes 80/100 or 90/90x21 the 90 will be better on hard but will climb the ruts a bit more

Was hot out there later in the day on Saturday and busy earlier, but cleared out quickly.
I've run the 454 Pirelli and now on the mx51. The Pirelli has much more outright grip in most conditions on the practice track. The mx51 is better on the race track in the morning but suffers later.. Really need to keep on the gas cap to get it to grip. On the back I gave the monstrous maxxis 120 a go on the rear but I like the pirellis and now they have braced the rear of the 554 it should nt tear as easy, which was the downfall of the pirellis. Always heaps of grip but.
Have brand new 554s ready to go.

Crush 51 seems good for me so far. I have not ridden it on really bad hardpack/blue groove yet but.

Suprised people are running Pirelli always thought they were not the same standard as a Bridgestone or Dunlop. Might have to suss them out.

I think the mx51fa are jap made? Where as the mx51f is indo sumitomo.

I buy my mx51f on the cheap from a little shop in villawood!

Pretty good on the blue groove but just before blue groove when it's a little dirt over blue they seem super vague, compared to Pirelli.
Pressure is important though and I find the mx51 really sensitive to a couple psi

Yet to try Bridgestone in this decade though!

There is a new mx52 coming out now. Seems to have good ideas in its design. And a slow rebound compound- tried that in DH mtb and really liked it compared to normal compounds.

Im a big fan of the bridgies Im running 403/402 at the moment and there great most places, had a 202 on the rear and it worked great also its fine on blue stone fast bush trails to hard pack clay and is awesome if there is any traction to be found. And they last a lot longer than the dunlops I was running, have a ac10 michelin on the rear atm as the shop had no bridgies when I went in and its good only in the grippy stuff, hard pack with lose rocks or sand the thing lights up tpo much for me.

I had a pirelli on the rear a few years back and it was great but after a few hours the thing was throwing knobs off, pulled them out down to the canvas!! Never bought another again, how do you find they wear? Dont remember the exact model I had but it was an intermediate, and should have handled the stuff it was in.

Appins a real pain in the ass to pick tyres for, almost need two sets of wheels, one for the morning and one for the arvo. Race track is super sloppy and loose in the morning but bakes really hard and blue groove by the afternoon. I've been running the Pirelli Scorpion Mid/Hard for a while and seems to be the best compromise i can find.

MX51 never seemed to last for me, always felt magic for the first couple of rides but for some reason went slippery as buggery after that. Havent used Bridgestone since the 401/402 days, those were awesome.

As far as louee, im not sure it matters out there, nothings going to give you traction on those tracks Smile

Cheers boys! Jeez where are all you blokes in the normal forum haha...

Yeah I'm pretty slow but Appin is a fucker, I've never loved hardpack tracks... Is ok in the morning but like I say the 51 up front just isn't fun for me...

Think I'm gonna put some bridgestones on there... After that I'd imagine the 32/52 Dunlops will be in Aus so maybe try them next time.

I ride fairbarn in canberra a bit and its the same thing, good and tacky in the morning and blue grove and tire destroying after lunch. I mostly run 31's and they have treated me well until it gets rock hard but I ride a fair bit of grass track and sand. But I rode bega around Christmas and I have to say that it has the best dirt of any track ive ridden.

Appin was perfect today. Light rain made it loamy most the day. LOAMY!!!! APPIN??? Max of 5-6 people on the track at once

Picked up a left behind factory Dunlop that is the new mx52 but wasn't marked.. Factory Dunlop left behind by a factory rider. Had the pretty yellow Dunlop on it

52! Well done. I'd say it'll be a while till they get here.

Appin was awesome the other weekend but kembla was closed apparently – never seen so many people there!

Hey bud.

I paid 320 for 403/404s and heavy duty tubes installed... (120 rear)

That was balmain motorcycles. I think 130 for the front, 140 for the rear and 30 for each tube. Didn't charge me to put em on. Seemed ok I thought.
