Gold swingarm, rims, head.....had the same dream many nights!! Although I preferred the 1980 KX80 DG racer...with the black forks. Anyone got pics of a DG KX80?? I mail ordered a DG catalog all the way up to Canada in 1980, it took almost 4 1/2 months with a hand written letter with $10 (Can $$) in the snail mail. I'm sure I didn't put that catalog down for months when I got it. My buddies and I would drool on it for hours at a time, looking at all the cool stuff we could get for our XR75s.

The Mark Charles stand always looked like an accident waiting to happen.

What were the updates for the '81 model....."BUSP" Big Ugly Supercross Plate!![/quote:3ijtdhwz]

No, the 81 KX125 was actually a good bike. It just looked exactly like the 80 model, except for the fenders, front number plate, color of the KX logo on the seat, and the shape of the ignition side cover. I bought an 81 and a left over 80 for a practice bike. The 80 was hopeless - it was slow and the powerband was barely wide enough to get you from gear to gear. But the 81 was as fast as anything else that year - BUT you had to fix the carb. It came with a funny nozzle and limited range of main jets, and on premium pump gas it would ping. I dug thru the Sudco catalog and found something more conventional that would work and got it rich enough and problem solved. I swapped fenders and seats between my bikes so it looked like I was racing the 80 - my little joke.

Yes
a Pal of mine had one and it was nice but as a 13 yr old I was all about the Watercooling and coolness of the other 125s

I think it was the 79 DG calendar that had all the Jap bikes all done up, with pricing for whole bikes and stuff. I remember wearing that catalog out.

I was 13 years old when that came out and nothing will ever look as good to me as any of the 79s done up well.....

First real Dream Bike was a '70 Suzuki TS 90(think TS). The dual sport up pipe one; green and white tank and side panels.
Dream MX Bike a '72 Bultaco 125 Pursang.
Think Bultaco had a West Coast headquarters. Want to say Encino; but that maybe Dirt Bike mag.
Just remember a huge envelope Bultaco sent me with all their U.S. bikes in color brochures.
Also got a Steve's Bultaco brochure in Jr. Hi...
Dad had built a fort that was covered in Bultaco sticks and all the brochures hanging on thumb tacks...
Boy, 'dem were the days for being a kid; ride anywhere without no cops and if they did show, just said go somewhere else.

Hey Cam
David should've let you bust a few hot laps on it.
Just think what that bike would be worth now!

Believe me, I wanted to. I was at his dad's Lake Whitney camp and at the end of the last day, while everyone was practicing starts, David rides over to me and says, "let's go play ride". We went up in the hills above the track and I chased him around for about 30 minutes. I was stoked.

I bought a "barn fresh" 1981 Maico 490 today. Another project bike that is all there, but lacks compression. I will be tearing into it first of the week, but tommorow I'm going riding my modern bike.

I saw one of these on the showroom floor when my Dad was picking up his new sled....I kept drooling on it every time I came into the shop all winter long. Too short to ride it, but it was SOOOO cool!! Liquid Cooled and YPVS " title="Laughing"> " title="Laughing">

.....even my Dad thought it was cool. I didn't get a new one until '83. That was unforgettable :D:D
