whats the one thing you want to do before you die? just thought Id through that out there because Im sick of the fuking doom and gloom credit shit and Obama this Obama that , give the man a chance for christs sake, thank god for your health and family mx and sex ,
anyway the thing id most want to do before I die is go see the titanic and get a spin in an F16 fighter jet , now that would be a dream come true, any of you guys in the know, wink wink nood nood that could fix that up for me,

Yeah it was awesome, did a mach run at about 3,000, loops, rolls, high G turns. I took the stick for about 10 minutes and got to do some rolls. Pretty damn cool. I was supposed to get a ride in an F-16 at Nellis in the early 80s (I was a Crew Chief on them before the F-4) but I got bumped last minute by a congressman and then transferred to Germany before getting my ride.

I'm getting old and have realized this.

The pilots always have some sort of pool going on whether or not they can get the person puke who they're giving the incentive ride to. I actually got my ride from a big shot full bird Colonel who had a lot of sorties in the Vietnam war. The first step in that attempt always happens on take-off before they even get to the end of runway.
We got clearance to take off and he threw the throttles ahead and the burners lit up, we got up to takeoff speed where he gets the jet up off the deck about 25 feet and holds it there and continues to build up as much speed as he can before getting to the end of runway where he yanks the stick back as hard as he can squashing me into the seat and points the nose straight up into the sky. There are mirrors on the top front part of the canopy so you can see what's behind you. All I saw in front of me was sky but in the mirrors I remember seeing the runway getting smaller and smaller as we go straight up to about 10,000 where he does a couple of rolls and then levels off. All this just took a few seconds. By this time I had this grin on my face that didn't come off for about 3 days straight.
Then we headed out over the range and did some loops rolls turns etc. He let me take the stick and at that time I had never flown myself (I since have soloed in small aircraft) so he just said pull back on the stick a bit and then move it left or right to do a roll. Well, I get the nose up and then moved the stick as far left as it would go and I remember it looked like his head bounced off the canopy as we did 3 rolls lickety split. I guess I wasn't suppose to give it quite that much aileron.
We also did a 0 g dive like they do with NASA's vomit comet for 0 G training. I held my camera out in front of me and let it go and it just floated there for a few seconds. That was pretty cool. We could only go to 7 Gs because we had external fuel tanks which reduces the number of Gs you're allowed to pull but he put it into a turn and at about 3 Gs the G suit really inflated and as he kept making the turn tighter and increasing the Gs I eventually couldn't talk. My lips would move but no words would come out I guess because my guts were trying to exit through my posterior. Then it felt like someone was closing a door on me and everything went dark. I guess I went out and then he came out of the turn. He was like "you ok back there?" and I said "no problem!".
Most of the stuff we were doing required a lot of afterburner so it surprised me that we were low on fuel with little over 30 minutes of flight time, even with external tanks on. I gotta say I felt just fine though the entire flight until we got back to the base and he lined it up for a landing. That's when everything caught up with me. It was one of those "oh shit" feelings that you just know you're going to puke. I started getting all sweaty and flush so I opened up the vents and turned on 100% oxygen to try and make it all the way back before losing my lunch. It was a little pissed when the pilot decided to do a few touch and goes rather than just landing. On the third one I said I was ready to get back on the ground.
I never did puke but for the next 3 days I wish I would have because I was spent and really felt odd for literally 3 days. What an incredible experience that was, nothing like it ever. The closest I got to a ride like that was when a buddy of mine took me up for a glider ride last summer. He's a glider instructor and flies the tow plane and also flies helicopters. I was really surprised how much the glider ride gave me a similar feeling to the fighter ride. You can pull a lot of Gs in a glider too.
