I dont get into debates about that stuff, but I feel a life begins when the egg is fertilized and splits. From that point forward all the info about the person is already laid out in the double helix.

The way I see it, is that a fertilized egg is a human life no different than a 100 year old invalid laying in a nursing home. One is in the very start of human life, the other is the very advanced, end stage. Point A and then Point B.

I don't like politics playing science...but, in truth, it's hard to argue with that.

We can pretty much grow a person or animal from just a fertilized egg at this point.

I'm not touching the political implications because I just don't have a good answer.

The point in which it can sustain life, with all that science and medicine has to offer, outside the host, until that time it is a part of that host

where were you before the seed was planted, where do you go when you die?

I'm not a Christian, but I do know that in Genesis, Adam became man when the breath of life entered his lungs.

Of course I don't debate when life starts because the issue of bodily integrity has more bearing on abortion than this does, and it's much easier to legally define.

I believe the very first thing we do in life is "inhale" and I believe the last thing we do in life is "exhale"

I agree with that.

problem I have is if a woman is raped or gets preggo some horrible way and wants abortion, I think she has every right to get one. Life inside her or not.
adoption? why should she have to suffer even more because she was raped (or insest or whatever).

one last point - my sister in law had a miscarriage in the toilet. I'm not sure how far along she was, it wasn't very far. No insurance or anything, she used a spoon and scooped the glob out and buried it in the backyard. No shit. I didn't want any part of that odd situation.

For legal purposes they define corporations as a "person" why not a fetilized egg? The point being it's legal & political wrangling around a woman's right to choose.

If it is able to push the coat hanger back out at you, then it is a life.

But seriously, I'm with dave on this one.

We can pretty much grow an organism from any of your skin cells at this point too. If you're going to argue based on what could develop into a human, then every time you move and your shirt brushes off 123,798 cells we should convict you of mass murder.

Anyone of the Jewish faith on this board? I heard somewhere that in the Jewish religion it was some sort of sin to "spill your seed" which I took to mean masterbation. It thats true was it because they see sperm as life or a living thing? Or ??

I'm pretty sure that any bible thumper will say anytime you spill your seed without looking to create a life you are sinning. Says so in the bible.

Sex is for having babies - not for pleasure.

heres the easy answer....

nobody has a right to life. john lockes "natural rights" essay may say otherwise, and i swear by that document but in nature, its not a sin for a bear to kill a rabbit is it? its survival.

just the same as stealing is looked upon differently depending on your situation. and i say that as a person who believes a thief is the lowest of the low.

ive actually contradicted myself in both those statements. my point tho is this, survival comes first. if a baby is killed, consider it collateral damage. who cares if its a life or not? at the point of life we are discussing, that life is the property of the parents to do what they want with, no matter what you or i think is right.

I'm outta my league in this discussion. I understand what you are saying and all I can say is I don't like the issue/debate because it's very difficult.

My logical side says we are just animals anyway. There is no natural rights anymore than any other animals.

My human/humane side wonders about it. You can pull a 6 month old baby out of a mother's womb and you will have no doubt that is a person. At 1 second post fertilization not so much. But, that's perspective and it might just be wrong.

well put txmxer. we are just animals in reality.

and yeah, its a life for sure. a living breathing human if you pull it out at 6 months. but sometimes you gotta crack some eggs to make an omelet. its a cold statement to make but its an efficient way of thinking.

I guess we have to start having "Conception Day" instead of a "Birthday" think of the perks you can drive, drink, vote and go to jail (and become an MX Pro) 9 months earlier.

The history of our country warns us against legislating these hot button moral issues. Think about the 18th and 21st amendments. Banning alcohol didn't stop people from drinking, and you can blame it for paving the way for organized crime. The point here is that if you want anything illegal and if you have the money, you can get it.

So with your logic we should pull the plug on any person on life support. Should they have pulled it on that kid from Fl? Like it was stated earlier, there is no difference between a baby who needs the mother to grow and a 90 yearold hooked up to a machine to live. One is at the begining and the other is at the end.

The heart starts beating 2 weeks after the egg is fertalized. I was involved with an abortion when I was younger and my wife had a late term abortion before I knew her. After we educated ourselfs on abortion it made my wife sick at what she did. 95 % of late term abortions can live outside the womb in an incubater before they are killed.

If more people watched videos or found out more about late term abortions I gaurantee that it would be banned. Another 4 inches and those are breathing babys.

Not true, God gave us sex as a gift for pleasure but not to be abused.
