So I took my truck in for a check up today just to make sure everything was all good after I put a thousand miles on it.
It all checked out but they wanted to do a transmission flush.

I didn't go for it cause anytime I have heard of someone doing a transmission flush it has gone horribly wrong for them, transmissions goes out and all sorts of weird problems.

My truck has 96K on it and is a little Chevy Colorado. It to my knowledge has never had it or a record of it. The book reccomends it at 60K.

The dealer says it was dirty but I have heard that's just normal it would be dirty to a repair shop after a thousand miles.
I also heard since it has so many miles on it already to just let it go

Any opinions?

Most big chain oil change places wont do a transmission flush after 100k miles. I asked a manager at one shop why this was and he stated they had gotten an inordinate amount of claims after doing flushes on cars with that high of mileage. Theory is that dirt is knocked loose by the flush plugging the valve body or something else up.

What does your tranny fluid look like? Is it still red, does it smell burnt? Maybe just do an oil and filter change if it has one if the oil doesn't look good.

Like you the general consensus I've heard is if it ain't broke don't fix it.

If something is working well, I see no need in 'flushing' anything. A fluid change, filter, clean sediment in pan and new pan gasket are just fine.

Many times the only thing keeping a auto trans going is the Clutch particles floating around in the fluid. you drain it and the next thing you know it's slipping and goes out in a hundred or so miles. If it is working well I would leave it alone.
