Is this a hunch or do you have some real info to support your claim?

I think it'll be a long time before [u:3uh44oqa]all[/u:3uh44oqa] manufacturing comes back here. No doubt the price of oil will trickle into the price of the product coming from Asia. With an eightfold difference between average individual annual incomes from China to here, that's quite a spread before we dominate all manufacture. And, they're getting better at engineering, at a much lower rate, too. Heck, within the past 5 years, I've started to use certain engineering activities during the product development cycle from China, and it's been working very effectively.

I have always wondered why our government does not insist that all goods imported into the U.S have to be manufactured to the same environmental standards that we have here. That would certainly bring more jobs back here and help with the pollution problems.

Because lawyers haven't figured out a way to make money on it yet.

Because corporate america, and its investors, would rather bribe, err. . . pay . . . errr . . . lobby politicians to prevent such laws than they would to pay workers here a going American wage.

Wait til the Chinese stop buying American bonds.

It's an old story. Exploit a cheap labor force until the wages & benefits raise the standard & cost of living high enough to make it less profitable than before & move on to another country to repeat the cycle. According to corporate bean counters, who only look at the profit margins, Americans & most European countries have priced themselves out of the market so you move on to China, Indonesia, India & Mexico until they too have increased their standard of living high enough to affect the bottom line. Repeat as necessary. Jobs are never coming back here for the most part. We are the largest debtor nation on earth.

Theres already talk of moving manufacturing to Egypt because their people will work for less than the Indians and Chinese.

And the manufacturing "will" come back to America. Once we too are a Third World Country we too will be able to compete on the low wage side of things. Its just a matter of time.

Are you kidding? Who do you think goes over to China and sets up the factories to build all of their more advanced manufacturing plants?
